In the 18 months up to the WC,the philosophy was to go hard(batting wise)now back to the Kepler days when 50 off 13 overs was a cause for celebration.

what is even more concerning is that after 38 overs and being 4 down, not even 1 batsman has managed to achieve a strike rate of 70...... That is even including the 2 currently occupying the crease

The pitch has slowed down ,and the Kiwi bowlers are taking the pace off the ball, but not to worry our pace bowlers will come out blazing and bowl short of a length which will sit up nicely to be dispatched to the boundary with ease.

New Zealand batsmen battled to score and just made the score with a couple balls to go , so in the circumstances i thought Amla at least gave us a target which we could of defended if A) SA players could actually catch the ball and
it also helps if u can throw the ball straight to the wicket keeper when Williamson is halfway down the pitch :silly:

beeing a pro cricketer myself one cannot always pin point 1 individual Amla did his job yesterday de cock went early when setting a total 1 batter in the top 4 must always bat through when I played SAu19 that year Jennings could not make that more clear although he did not bat through which was his 1 error.. the big problem I have is we dont have match winners if de cock doesnt score we will never bat a team out the game and we dont have a finisher in at 7 miller is to inconsistent to be called that!! if Tahir doesnt get wickets we cant bowl a team out that is the problem
hence India will always be the team to beat in my eyes they have so many match winners and that covers up bad performances by certain individuals when you have a team like we do only thing we can do is the basics properly and that we did more than we have in the past

A sad state of affairs.
Going to be a very looooong 18 days left in England for the Proteas, hopefully they get along well with each other.
It is time to get Neil McKenzie and Mark Boucher involved in the coaching. Let them build a team!

NZ beat us in 50th over - some teams win like good horses - only do enough to win.
We made 227 against India - they only got up in 48th over
Chasing 330 odd against Bangladesh, we managed 309 - would not have been close to that if amla made his usual 50 off 75 balls
Some scores from ball faced in this world cup:
Roy (54.53)Root (51.59)Gayle (54.33)Finch (66.49)Guptill(73.51)Munro(58.47)Imam(44.58)Azam (63.66)
Perera (78.81)
Why play amla at all? - if he makes 40 or more- -lose - not enough runs, and a big liability fielding
