Piere Strydom has been handed a fine and a suspension by the Racing Commissioners for his ride on Man From Seattle in Race 2 at Champ de Mars Racecourse on Saturday.
The Ramesh Gujadhur-trained runner went off at 22-10 and finished eighth, 5.70 lengths behind the winner. Strydom was fired by the trainer due to that ride and yesterday he faced an inquiry.
“Following the investigations of the Racing Commissioners, jockey Piere Strydom was suspended for 6 days and fined Rs 50,000 (R20,800).
“He was found guilty of failing to ride Man From Seattle to the satisfaction of the race marshals in Race 2.”
Strydom only joined the Gujadhur yard in May and interestingly, has ridden 10 winner from 51 rides which is a very decent average of 20%.
In other issues, jockeys Olivier Plaçais and Akash Aucharuz were “severely reprimanded” for excessive use of the whip.
