Who caught your eye today?
5 years 8 months ago - 5 years 8 months ago
Have been asked to start a thread where members can comment on the observations on that days racing.
I think it might be better to keep all the comments to one thread like we did with the “ Little Black Book” ?
So here you go, post all your comments below..
Who was impressive? One to back next time. Who was unlucky?
Or just general observations.
Please let’s keep it reasonably clean and factual.
Might even do a “ Race of the day “ if I get any requests
Thoughts?

Thanks for the thread Bob...
I can't add much today. To be honest, skipped the maidens as usual and stopped at race 5 as money was to be had either way. Didn't see any fireworks checking threads later on so assuming the fellas didn't pan much gold later in the day.
So with regards to race 5...
I am a little embarrassed to have been given a proper hiding by my fellow punter and running third...but to be honest, at the price the Yeni pony had the place cover...which is usually 3x win stake. Places are a treat. The winner was such a dilemma seeing it showed improvement at a lower weight, which is the problem... Can one trust the improvement and often I would look for something concrete like my third place...would have been exceptionally distraught had Yeni's not shown, but was confident of a place at the very least...3rd...ouch...too close. Still have to do homework and see the pony that ran second...
Missus doing a Jacaranda walk thingy tomorrow morning so I can study and recap today's... from about 8 in the morning and will add to this perhaps.
What we have for younsters and prospective pro-punters is...
1. Safety and bank first... Could have gone with the winner (no place money and not as certain for me), but was sure Yeni's had a place at least...was a lazy effort and spent 15 minutes on the race...sometimes they just pop.
2. Discipline boys. Like any job you will get bitten or embarrassed if you don't sacrifice the time and effort. Every single time.
3. The Springboks will win the WC.
See you boys for a killer Saturday bright and early.
Edit: betting that Yeni pony in its next would be futile unless it gets a big weight break or outstanding draw advantage. That one seems blown. Very good run by the winner and can't see it go to rest, it might just have another outing before the next big attempt depending on circumstance, but it certainly is still on the up considering the ease by which it cruised clear... lovely money coming for Yvette still on that one...and within two months.

Indeed Craig...I get so disappointed when I open Greeff Friday cards these days. A quick scan often leads me to just dump the day.

Sat 14 Sep at the Big T:
A few big disappointments for me, but let's focus on the positive:
1. Paul Peter - not sure how he does it, but his horses are sweeping all before them
2. Candice Dawson - still in form
3. With the support of the 2 stables above, Warren Kennedy is riding like a man posessed
4. Apprentice Dicken - another good day - follow him whether at 2/1 or 50/1
5. Divine Odyssey - great run at the weights over a trip too short
6. Queen Supreme- good run after a maiden win - looks like 1600 and up will be her trip
6. Al Ragnar - never mind Nimitz, great run here and looks to have a bright future over these type of trips

thanks for putting up the topic Bob.
It would be appreciated if anyone would add any selections from analysing the days racing, to this topic for future races.
Comments would also be appreciated as to why an horse as "caught the eye". although in Sweet Coetzee selection SEVILLE it is pretty well clear as to why it should be backed next time.
anyone selecting any horse, if you could also highlight the name of the horse in CAPITALS as it would help in seeing what the selection is.

R6 turffontein
sarah was a worthy winner having got the lead and looked to keep a straight line.
although watching the replay, sarah ran across the front of nicky noo, who switched the other way and carried ULLA, la bella mia and OPERETTA right across the track.
Placings would have been a different story if not for the interference.
OPERETTA, having been impeded at the 200 m when making its run, come again and looked to have a bit in hand at the finish. ULLA also showed promise and could find another win soon enough.
thoughts from others are welcome
