I remember Empress Club winning 1000 in the Cape in a warm up race for the season. More recently Pomodoro a Turffontein 1200. The good horses with the class overcome. If hes tuned up he wins. 12/10 makes it a race to watch rather than punt.

National emblem also springs to mind . Smashed Taban and Cordechelli (the 2 champion sprinters ) in his comeback run over greyville 1200

Can only hope he behaves at the start today and doesn't loose many lengths at the start, after all it is only 1200. If he jumps on terms he'll walk this race.

Plenty of class horses have won over 1000m/1200m over the years. What sets certain of them apart is that these class horses won Graded Sprint Races on their return which is an extraordinary feat. Empress Club victory although it being a minor race was impressive as it was over 1000m and it beat Taban and Marie Galante.
As previous posters mentioned, Flaming Rock won the Diadem twice. National Emblem beat a field that also included Shoe Shac.
My stand out is Key of Destiny. After winning the SA Classic (1800m), the KZN Derby (2400m) as a 3yo and also placing 4th in the July he won a Grade 1 Sprint at Scotsville as a 5yo.
