Maybe I'm just looking for spooks - big fields and I assume quite wet, so I would not be surprised if some (most ?) of the hotties get rolled

R1: Work Riders; Flower Season the one to beat on form, but why would the experienced rider be on the stable mate ? Candy Cane less than half a length behind the favorite - so each-way value for me
R2: Big field with a few question marks; again the Azzie runner rates the one the beat on form, but Valetorio imo would not have to be too good to feature prominently; Different Light may find the 1000 a touch on the sharp side and has an inside draw, as does the supported debutante Gavs Angel; Titelist also running thereabouts and not too far behind RtK on their last meeting; Ethel Rose (only 52.5 kgs) and the other Binda runner Syx Shooter with Bling riding, also could feature at big odds
R3: Another big field, where the first timer Numberninetynine (actually Number 13

R4: 18 runners again and another first timer August Rain has found the market support, but again it does not not look easy; Var Aglow was supported when making a fair debut over 1000m, and tries more ground with Gavin in the irons, so of the raced runners rates the one to beat; River Jordan an obvious danger, while Rock Manor, Bartholomeus and Court Jester all capable of surprising imo
R5: A full field of 20 face the starter and many people make this a match between Our Man in Havana and Banha Bridge; both should feature prominently, but I think Thunder Jet could make them run, while My Kingdom and Fire to the Rein are not totally out of it if they can overcome their wide draws; Arnica Montana tries blinkers and also has to be considered on his earlier form
R6: Small field, where Laconia is overdue and should take some beating today imo; Miss Cap Mala and Can Can the obvious dangers
R7: How fit is Celtic Sea; should win, but .... Desert Rhythm said to need the run, but gets 6 kgs from the stable mate and could surprise along Ancient Spirit and any of the light weights
R8; Hawwaam - yes, he is the class horse, but at these odds, I'm taking him on; Chimichuri Run very good sprinter and is my first choice from Rebel's Champ, whose recent runs suggest that 1200 could now be his trip; Danza with no weight will play catch-me-if-you-can imo and could hang on for a minir place
R9: Ring of Fire does look hard to beat; Scoop a big danger though imo
Enjoy

My suggestion is not to leave out Weimea in R2 from your bipots if your budget can allow it....

Have taken 2 and play as many times as you can afford and yes weather could be a factor ( just been requested to collect grandkids from school now in Kloof area)
So kids will be watching TT with Grandad.

Just an after thought .
Does the first timer rule still apply to pick 6?

Yes, no need to include a first timer - unless you want to double-up should the tote favorite win ...

What sets certain of them apart is that these class horses won Graded Sprint Races on their return which is an extraordinary feat. Empress Club victory although it being a minor race was impressive as it was over 1000m and it beat Taban and Marie Galante.
As previous posters mentioned, Flaming Rock won the Diadem twice. National Emblem beat a field that also included Shoe Shac.
My stand out is Key of Destiny. After winning the SA Classic (1800m), the KZN Derby (2400m) as a 3yo and also placing 4th in the July he won a Grade 1 Sprint at Scotsville as a 5yo.
Can’t see Illustrador mentioned. He won the Rupert Ellis Brown (?) over 1200 and then won the July or Daily News (?).

Illustrador is another horse to give Felix and Mr Millard the Rothmans July – Gold Cup double in 1990. The Argentinian-bred was a good looking dark bay with a blaze who usually raced in blinkers. Felix remembers, “He was funny to work in the mornings. He used to stick up and didn’t show anything in his work.” During the 1990 Durban season, Illustrador won the 1200m Rupert Ellis Brown Plate and downed Face North in the 1600m SA Guineas, before winning the 2200m Rothmans July. On 28 July he finished just over a length third to Face North in the 1800m Mainstay International and then lined up for the Gold Cup. “He was the obvious horse to go for and the thing is that if you put your hands down on him, he would just canter. Having won over 1200m, he was never going to be pulling in the Gold Cup, so it was just an easy ride. We sat midfield and just swept past them in the straight.”

Shame, surely he should be retired after the great service he gave both owners??
Reminds me of MAC DE LAGO running as an 8yo in Flamingo Park!!!!
