Update on South Africa: Saturday June 27th

Active cases 58139 an increase of 2030 since yesterday.

Recoveries 64111 increase of 4139 since yesterday.

Deaths 2340 an increase of 68 since yesterday.

497001 deaths increased 5145 since yesterday.

Consider the following ;

SA has had 2340 deaths over the 93 days an average of “25”per day .
UK with similar population had 43414 an average of “467 “per day.
It’s taking a long time for these averages to level off, or cross/match but the experts say it will happen?

after yesterday 7210 new cases. 4th highest in the world in last 24 hours. death rate still low .just over 2%

we still 18th most cases.
we will past Bangladesh today
France by the 3rd July
Germany by the 9th crossing 200k cases
and possibly UK towards the end of July. we could now realistically end up with the 5th most cases in the world.
this will leave 4 of the 5 founding BRICS nations with the most infections.
USA in another dimension.
Chinese figures rubbish.
Sylvester wrote: SA now 18th with total cases. we could catch france by the 5th of july and Germany by the 12th of July. crossing 200k cases.
we have the 9th highest active cases and will pass France today.

might be time to self isolate for next 6 weeks irrespective of what level we are sitting on.

Death rate just over 2% - question I have is how does this compare with the death rate of people with the normal 'flu (do we even diagnose people with 'flu nowadays - or is everyone now being diagnosed with COVID-19 ?) - also the death rate of people with TB ?

July and August could be dreadful months as far as the numbers in deaths start to rise.
Stay safe.

"
influenza (commonly known as the flu) statistics paint an even bleaker picture: the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that worldwide, annual flu epidemics result in as many as five million cases of severe illness, and about 290 000 to 650 000 deaths.

To put it in a local context, the flu kills between 6 000 to 11 000 South Africans every year, according to the National Department of Health. About 50% of those deaths are among the elderly, and about 30% in HIV-infected people. "

Flu and common colds will be much less as long as current measures are in place - social distancing, washing of hands etc

Well, I had to go for a test earlier this week as I had a few dops with a buddy who was subsequently diagnosed positive.
The results came in this morning as negative yay.
