Why are people not talking about Phumelela folding tomorrow?

This must be the biggest unofficial talking point in racing at the minute. I have had many sms and whatsapp from some very prominent people saying they are done.

I will raise a glass to see the back of those thieving scoundrels who have destroyed our sport and lined their pockets if this is true ( I have not had a drink for 14 years )

The question that must be asked - will there be a forensic audit and will people pay for their sins? I hope so.

Rian du Plessis
Andreas Heide

The two that need to be in the dock pronto and many will follow.

Here's to hoping its true!

Yes, have heard many and they all saying the same thing.

One interesting voicemail I got was from someone I dont recognise saying that they were supposed to announce on SENS on Thursday but this was mysteriously delayed and Phumelela traded record numbers.

I hope the JSE investigate some of those volume trades my thoughts are if this allegation is true, there has been clear insider trading as the scoundrels offload their penny stocks.

I enjoyed the ones from the trainers ( maybe enjoyed the wrong words)

Especially Rivaland telling everyone not to nominate and the PE trainer saying the RA are disgusting or disgraceful

You see, it’s never too late for the club system.

OTA, with all the bullsh1t flying around who will ever know? I really hope they can find a way for racing to continue even if its just GC land, but if not, stop the idea of racing all together for a period (say 2 months??) so as the trainers can cut back on feed/training and pass the discount on to the owners that are still hanging in there. This continuous dangling of a rotten carrot/high training fees will chase away far more owners.
Short term: 1st Sort out the open bet with the bookies
2nd Sell all the betting shops as soon as possible (generate cash) In its place introduce better online
facilities and maybe a "lotto type machine" to take bets at the supermarket chains??
3rd Close Phumelela and replace it with a "club like" system. (it worked for 100 years plus)
4th Start with an immediate forensic audit. ( just maybe we can get something back)
5th All NEW role-players brainstorm a new resolution for our way forward based on systems that work.
6th NHRA needs a face-lift with a clear mandate on how racing must be governed ("Hong Kong style")
7th Finalize the export protocols (for f.....s....)
8th Employ a professional marketing company not "in-house.
9th Scrap the RA (GC operate without it)
10th Pipe-dream I know but wouldnt it be great to get all parties in racing together under 1 roof?
11th Another pipe-dream/pet hate of mine, replace the MR system. (we are a 3rd world country after
all)
12th Vets charging needs to regulated now. (why can't our trainers go back to doing more of the work,
they always used to?)

Just a few thoughts of mine this morning. Im really trying to be positive and "add" to the solution rather than bitching and moaning the whole time even though these "mugs" make it very difficult/easy. Costs need to be cut for the owner!!!

Surely there should then be a cautionary SENS tomorrow before a suspension of trading notice can be issued.

Muhti this is my entire point. If it is true a cautionary was supposed to be issued on Thursday, then the share would have been suspended and there would not have been the ridiculous volume that there was.

Tomorrow will be an extremely interesting day.

@neigh I like your thinking - people like you should hopefully be included in the "new" structures. To replace one bad apple with another will not be the answer

Very well put Neigh. Love your points. For me if we see the back of Phumelela it could be the best thing for horse racing.

The main points I think is horse racing needs to be organised under one roof as a club, most definitely not as a listed company for the benefit of shareholders!! They have to close the open bet, not one young person I know bets into the Tote. They need to take total control of horse racing and all bets should go into the tote, if tote pools grow, so do stakes, so do horse owners. Its just one massive positive spiral.... They need a new body, with new rules and full control; all income from horse racing should go to betterment of horse racing. Horse racing still can be a great asset to this country and we could be racing for way bigger stakes then currently if re-organised. We all know better stakes just leads to a better all round game for everyone

I think we have a massive amount of knowledge out there on the best way forward and dont want to sound negative.............BUT

We must seriously consider where will the punting RAND actually come from ??

We will soon find out how much damage the Government has actually done to business and the unemployed man on the street, when the dust settles.

Does spare cash go on the first fav or food for the children?

Food for thought.
