R1) Surprised to see Nexus open the 28/10 favourite, now eased out to 33/10.

On their run to Capoeira, there is a 6.5kg swing in the weights, for a 7.0 length beating, but with a valid excuse. On their run to Belgarion on the 11/01, Herodotus gave Nexus 3.0kgs and finished 3.50 lengths ahead.

On all exposed form/past results, very difficult seeing Nexus (33/10) finishing ahead of Herodotus (7/1).

My punt for the day.

If the betting is anything to go by ... HERODOTUS has lost a hind leg

The competition is going to be over as a contest after the running of the first race, this is my double choice.

To even the playing field, he will race on three legs (lol).

On a serious note, the drift is a concern, good thing the horse doesn’t know that, guess the race will tell.

If he wins, it’s called mis-direction, if he doesn’t winning, sadly the answer will be yes.

Thoughts on Gold Cup Day …. Didn't get to watch the 'show' last night - but if it was the same as the one shown this morning, a disappointing effort - I really don't care what the 1-2-3-4 from the presenters are - give us more interviews - and on the last big day of 'Champions Season', we need the input from the top stables like Snaith, Tarry, and Bass Robinson - also the Spies yard has a few interesting runners on the day

R1: Open handicap – some not exposed on Poly making it more complicated; betting now much more realistic than earlier; for me first choice is Silent Crusade – proven on the surface and has a nice draw, only slight concern to me is that she seems better over shorter, so depending on the pace (and they usually go quick on the surface), she might just run out of steam the last 50m; plenty others with chances – Cat Daddy certainly won’t be stopping, while there is nothing on form between Hudoo Magic, More Magic and Liberty Hall, but if this race was in the P6, I’d consider going FIELD

R2: Ditto Race 1 – but a few here seem to prefer 1200 and not all have run well on the surface; for me I think Goliath Heron has a lot going for him – might be better over slightly further, but should be right there; roughie to consider imo is Di Mazzio, who has 3 wins to his credit this track and trip – slightly out at the weights, but not too much of a concern over the minimum trip; not too many without a chance though

R3: Should lie between the top 3 on the boards – some rain predicted for the morning – outcome probably depends on how much and whether it makes this a tougher 1200 or not – if it stays dry I think Miracle Flight will make them run to catch her – Ecstatic Green may now need more ground – and Springs of Carmel of course can’t be discounted

R4: Draws may determine the outcome – Erik the Red and Pray for Rain stand out on form; I think however taking the draws into account, Garrulous could prove hard to catch; Dandolo has a tough draw, but can run on late to place

R5: Anything Goes looks hard to beat – looks very capable and just needs to handle the track; Love Bomb beat Caralluma convincingly in the Golden Slipper over 1400 and for me it is hard to see that form reversed – especially taking the draws into account

R6: Tempting Fate goes for 4 in a row, but this is tough – has to prove he stays and also has to overcome a poorish draw; hence I believe that an upset here is not impossible; Nourbese won well last time and should not be troubled by the extra 200m; hard to see Portico turn the tables taken the draws into account; should not be much between Catch Twenty Two and Red Ten, while the best roughies imo are Crimson King and Native Tongue – both easy to back, but I think worthwhile inclusions in bigger perms

R7: Gold Cup always competitive and no exception this year; as per the betting, the 2 that stand out for most are It’s My Turn and Marchingontogether; at the weights I prefer Marchingontogether, but even though his dam is by Montjeu, he still needs to prove he does get this trip; It’s My Turn of course has proven that he stays; Dark Moon Rising looks to be peaking at the right time; still seems held by It’s My Turn on the Gold Cup run 2 years ago, but not sure that It’s My Turn can reproduce that form 2 years later, and DMR certainly seems to hold IMT on the more recent Derby form – so DMR attractively priced imo; another danger could be Shenanigans – runs well here and has shortened in the betting - should not be too much between him and Dark Moon Rising; plenty others may have a say, including Imperial Ruby and Factor Fifty – both of these seem to prefer a longer straight though

R8: Again the draws may determine the outcome; fancied runners drawn wide, which could leave the door open for Van Halen – but given luck in running, Kasimir and Russet Air also must be considered – Chimichurri Run the only other with a chance at these weights

R9: Match race; I just prefer Rainbow Bridge over the 1800 from Do It Again; Crown Towers seemingly will set the pace to suit Do It Again, but I still prefer Rainbow Bridge; Golden Ducat improving, but hard to see him beat the top 2 at the weights, while Cirillo is sure to run his heart out again, but also seems held by the top 2, especially over 1800; others seem unlikely to feature at the weights

R10: Miyabi Gold disappointed in the July, but looks very hard to beat here; Driving Miss Daisy to take advantage should MG have another off day

Enjoy B)

GOLD CUP DAY - Greyville - South Africa 29 August 2020
Hi Guys,

10h40 Guru's Pride 5/1 Much better at the weights with 52kg plus good draw

11h15 Goliath Heron 6/1 Better in weights with some of these and good draw, expecting good run

11h50 Miracle Flight 3/1 7kg better with Ecstatic Green & 6kg with Springs Of Carmel. Should win no race !!!!!!!!!!

12h25 Pray For Rain 3/1 He should go close here as he has run to the best of his age(Tempting Fate stable companion in previous 2 runs) and they rate that horse TOP. draw a slight worry he over comes draw should win

13h00 Anything Goes 2/1 Here NO RACE!!!!!! Should win this well, good draw unbeaten what will run 2nd?

13h35 Tempting Fate 2/1 NO NO NO RACE!!!!!! Good horse they rate him draw again slight worry his only enemy but class is there and expect him to show it

14h15 Marchingontogether 7/2 Much better last few runs and has run to better, on dam side should love this distance and with weights turn around in his favour I am expecting him to run well

14h55 Kasimir 5/2 He is much better here in these conditions with even weights, again draw a slight issue but he will tuck in and run his usual late burst to win this easy race

15h30 Rainbow Bridge 2/1 WELL WELL WELL At last he gets a race with weights to suit his merit rating. He is the best horse in the country and this will be too easy. RACE OVER STAND IN THE QUEUE BEST BET TODAY

16H07 Miyabi Gold 5/4 Another with weights in her favour after running in Group 1 company last. Now in Group 2 she will be better suited to this opportunity and show what she is made of.

Good day today lots of money with these horses on trebles doubles ect
