Greyville 29/08 - Champions Season Finale
4 years 9 months ago
Seeing that most books are available and the full card betting is out, let's have some early thoughts.
R1) Surprised to see Nexus open the 28/10 favourite, now eased out to 33/10.
On their run to Capoeira, there is a 6.5kg swing in the weights, for a 7.0 length beating, but with a valid excuse. On their run to Belgarion on the 11/01, Herodotus gave Nexus 3.0kgs and finished 3.50 lengths ahead.
On all exposed form/past results, very difficult seeing Nexus (33/10) finishing ahead of Herodotus (7/1).
My punt for the day.

Could be right, of course, but neither of them has been on the Poly .....

Point taken, from a value perspective, if Nexus opened 28/10, then Herodotus opened too big in the betting, and should start shorter.
I am hoping Herodotus will have enough class to put this field away, albeit he has not been on the poly before. He run Belgarion to 1.25 lengths conceding 0.5kg, put Balgarion in this field carrying 60.0kgs, what price?

Going to follow the Tarry horses again :-
R3) Ecstatic Green, was far from disgraced on July Day against the boys, that was a very good effort. Back against her own sex and maybe over a distance more to her liking, I make her a massive runner.
R5) Carralluma, the comment is "took no interest", and she still managed to finish second - imagine if she does put her mind to it?
R9) Chimichuri Run, back on the grass and over a distance more to his liking, obvious threat to the favourite. Valid excuses last time.
I think the Tarry stable will set the record straight come Saturday.

Can only see the recent comments that Rainbow Bridge had a niggle, for him being second favourite in the WSB Champions Cup

I still have nightmares about this horse on July day.

Here's the problem, as punters we are a fickle bunch, one defeat or indifferent performance, and we think the horse is no-good. Sometimes we need to give a horse a second chance, and then decide going forward.
The stable doesn't make the same mistakes often.

Hi Bob, are Computaforms available for this meeting?
Would also like to know which horses traveled back to JHB and which stayed here for this meeting...... No chance of that happening but anyway
