Re: Frank Robinson the racist

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that it has opened an Inquiry into alleged racist comments made on social media by trainer Frank Robinson.
After careful consideration of the social media post and the prima facie evidence, the Chief Executive and Racing Control Executive have placed an interim suspension on trainer Robinson in terms of the provisions of Rule 91.2.
This interim suspension prevents Trainer Robinson from entering or declaring horses under his licence until such time as the Inquiry is finalised.
In the interests of horse welfare, Mr Robinson will be permitted access to horses in his care during the period of interim suspension.
On Sunday, Gold Circle also put out a statement regarding the incident.
”Gold Circle is aware of comments attributed to a KZN-based trainer on social media and disassociates itself from those comments which in no way reflect the views of Gold Circle.
”The company does not tolerate any form of racial discrimination and whilst the NHA conducts an investigation into this matter, Gold Circle will be doing their own investigation and deciding on an appropriate course of action.”

My opinion:
1. Having friends of a certain race does not make you not a racist, just as much as not having friends of a certain race doesn't make you a racist.
2. The insurance guy that got called out to the country recently for cheating on his wife issued an apology after he had gotten caught. Every public person that gets caught issues an apology. Means nothing to me personally, simply a PR management exercise in this day an age(ask any PR professional how they are taught to handle this), so I will choose to ignore that.
3. A person that comes across as seemingly smart in his interviews as FR does should know better than to post something that reads as racially charged as his post does, if it was not what he intended to come across as.
4. English. Going purely on the comment in question, one would be hard pressed to agree with the assertion that FR's reference to race was that of the entire human race, of which FR is a part of, rather than the specific race group that was widely known to be celebrating with fireworks. This is established clearly through the use of "they" when referring to said race group, rather than "we", which indicates a separation of himself from said universal human race. "How stupid and childish THEY are" reads very differently to "how stupid and childish WE are", unless, of course, FR is not in fact a human, rendering this point moot.
5. The response to his reply references the Indian festival in question, did FR attempt to clarify his meaning after seeing that response immediately, or only once he was called out on here/wherever he was called out? This will probably be a big clue to his intention.
6. I don't know him. I bet his horses. That's all. We would be naive to think that all horsemen are saints just because they are good with horses, in the same way that we have seen seemingly mild mannered horse people called out for spousal abuse. Let's be careful of mixing our opinion of him as a person with him as a trainer.
7. I do agree, that there is no room for racists in this country, let alone this sport. In an environment as politically racially charged as our country is right now, it is time for people to be held accountable for inciting racial tension, if that is what they are found guilty of.
8. Regardless of the outcome of this investigation, every person of colour will think twice about sending horses to this trainer again for a very long time.

Agree with every point besides point 8 Thor. Not only must people of so called colour not send their horses to anybody who is racist any decent human should not no matter of your colour, creed, whatever. Unless you are like minded, then that's a given.

It's time that Diversity training courses should be attended by all so that such situations will not easily arise in future. Mr Robinson just wrecked his training career in my opinion and it's a high price to pay.
Just wondering if Mr Moodley is going to remove his horses from this stable.

Given that the VAST majority of Franks horses are owned by Indian patrons why on earth would he blatantly and callously bite the hands that feed him....it was an unfortunate misinterpretation of the message he was trying to put across.. His license has now been suspended pending a hearing, which means he cannot nominate or run any of the horses in his care until Friday when the case will be heard, he will however be allowed to tend to their well being and training needs...
Give everything but up!

In light ( ) of all the emotions running high in this thread I would just like to say. I'm very partial to a "good bang" every now and again. :woohoo: :silly: :silly:
Posting on social media, you have to double check your wording to make sure you mean what you say or say what you mean.
I cant help but feel sorry for FR if that is not what he meant to come across in saying what he did, but if it was then.........

I dont agree with you Chicken. What he said was wrong, but the punishment must fit the crime. I dont think what he said should result in his whole life being destroyed, and that of his family.
Fine him whatever is the precedent. Suspend him for a while.
Allow him the opportunity to make amends.
If indeed he intended to be derogatory in his comments, then thats a reflection on him, and others like him. That is not a reflection on me, or my people.

Wasn't this same trainer found guilty of assaulting a groom earlier this year , trouble with the authorities seems to follow some people in racing.
