Fresh SE wind today, so a brisk headwind.
Race 1 Ottoman Empire looks like a smart improving youngster, so should win this as he's likely to still be ahead of the handicapper. Liberty Hall should turn the tables on Pinkerton with the weight turnaround and the 1600m.
Race 2 Golden Ducat is slung in here, so very hard to oppose even though this is a warm up race. The Gatekeeper and More Magic next best at the weights.
race 3 Futura's Hope never seems to get a draw, but ran well enough at Durbanville despite that. He is my selection to beat Grand Vision. Flying Grace fair improvement last time and should challenge.. Quite a few with place chances.
Race 4 Black Silver touched off last time when strongly fancied. Must be respected but shouldn't be odds on. Snow Dragon very good debut and is my pick to beat her. Golden Dah next best.
race 5 A tricky staying race, and hopefully they go a proper pace. Six Hills Giant has been priced up favourite, but not so easy as he is 4kg out at WFA against the older, though admittedly quite moderate bunch. Twilight Zone with the 4kg claim is a danger, and Attorney General is lightly raced and looks to still have scope for improvement. Orange Bitters ran a couple of fair races over ground last year, and they have persevered with him despite 18 months off the track.
Race 6 Some very smart horses line up here, but prep runs for most of them so tricky to call on their fitness. Kommetdieding won his only start convincingly and could be anything, but the form of that sales race has not proved very strong. Invincabelle was scratched from his last start, but Jet Dark has franked the form of his second win. Joseph Barry very poor last time but top 2yo form. Tempting Fate is a top horse but must give weight to the useful Speed Machine and Russian Rock. Pleasedtomeetyou off form in KZN, but well in here if back to best. King of Gems and Sachdev need further. I will take a chance on Kommetdieding, but will go wide in exotics.
Race 7 A very competitive handicap. The consistent Sudden Star my narrow first choice.
Race 8 Another very open handicap. Warrior Bling stepped up nicely last time and I think is quite well in off a MR70, so he's my first choice, but plenty with chances.

5 horse field and 1st,2nd and 3rd favorite out the top 2.
These little appies are setting their own pace and the more experienced jockeys just sit there and ride for luck.

Yeah definitely playing there.
Jocks there mostly use their brains and don't always get shown up by the young appies setting the pace to suit themselves.

Pace again I think.
But at least Donovan Dillon tried to make a move as soon as they came into the straight.
