SA Horseracing - Daily Bomb Results
4 years 1 month ago
11 April 2021 Greyville Turf
Race 6 50/1 and Race 8 20/1
Race 6 Pinch Me - i dunno how u find that?
Race 8 The name says it all TOM BOMBADIL. Guess u could strech ans say some grass form but the latest grass form was in 2019. Trainer had a 2%win strike rate prior to this win. Jock has a 7% win rate

These results do happen every now and then and probably more so in lower handicap races but it is frustrating for punters when a mockery is made of skill and form studying. It takes one such result to undo a whole afternoons enjoyment but two normally makes it a complete blood bath.
It's high time that new bet types are brought in over and above the normal exotics that factor in these possibilities and are less punitive on the punter. There is absolutely no reason why this should not be catered for in the methodologies used to calculate winners which would make the day's racing a lot more enjoyable than having your nose bloodied by lotto type results.
Quality, winnable dividends should be available to the better player/s on the day even when these results occur with skill being properly rewarded and catered for. Regular results of this nature mostly take the enjoyment out of the day's participation and are very negative where attempts are made to introduce new players to the sport. Especially when trying hard to sell racing as a game of skill and a better option than games of chance.
The damage that these results do should be recognised and addressed in alternative exotic options. I will continue to make a case for more punter friendly products to be added into the mix. Our Scoreline product would address both the occurrences of bombs and last Saturdays ultra low payout of R265 in the P6 where the bet would have paid a substantial dividend to a few players on the day.
Racing really needs to develop products which demonstrates the competitive nature of racing and reward the punter fairly for the effort that goes into analysing a card.

I agree 100% on the idea that there needs be new innovative products to bet on - even something like a consolation P6 would be a good start imo.
As to the 'bomb' results, these have always been and will always be a part of racing, as we are not dealing with machines; I actually considered including Pinch Be in my HW selections - but at the end sadly went for the safer option (Rise - which duly got beaten a head into 2nd); more surprising to me was the win by Ball Rolling on Saturday - imo it had some very moderate (if consistent) form and was one of those that I thought would die a Maiden - but I suppose it just goes to show the lack of quality of the opposition

Pinch Me was a 3yo filly. Was still open to improvement. From the family of Forest Path, Reef Road and Spanish Galliard. Won on Greyville Turf prior to its dismal Scottville runs. Couple of weeks back Muzi won the 5th Race for the same stable Kotzen, on Great Affair which was a rank outsider also. Some jockeys can bring outsiders home regularly.

Prior to the Hollywood competition, Gold Circle had a similar game. I thought at that stage they will introduce it as a bet at a cost maybe R10. A concept like Hollywood can work. A certain portion of the pool, gets carry over every week if there is no winners of all selected legs until there is a winner.

In the days of yore there were three double dividends two of which were the two consolation dividends.

LEAGUE OF HER OWN
1st real bomb for a while. i see the tote was only 25 rand a win but the bookies had her at 100/1. guess the MR has crashed recently but Horse trainer jock combo made very difficult to find.

The drastic merit rating drop from 100 was maybe a way to find it. The 1.5kg apprentice allowance also helped but was drawn out. The thing is how long do you follow a horse. Wagered R50 on it so was happy in the end.
The day Pinch Me won the Pick 3 paid R12,500 but the pool was R17000 odd

I think Nico on Clocking the Gallop fancied League of her Own two runs or so ago - because of the rating drop; I looked at it again yesterday, but hell the form was bad - maybe the last run she improved after being drawn 15 from 15 and with that KZN apprentice who imo is not going to cut it; so yesterday it was drawn wide again and did not receive another MR drop from her last run - so I did not give her any chance - as Naresh says, how long do you follow a horse
On the topic of following horses, I have been following Piccadilly Square a while (and included that again in a trifecta yesterday) - the day I ignore it, will probably the day it decides to run
