Champion owner 2021....the race of the year!
3 years 10 months ago
With only 3 days of racing left its anybody's race to win between Suzette Viljoen, Drakenstein or Chris van Niekerk...when last did the battle go down to basicly the last race of a season to secure EQUUS Champion Owner.
With 3 days left its Suzette in front narrowly!!!!
Drakenstein R117 900 behind in 2nd
Van Niekerk R148 150 behind in 3rd.
Its anyone's race to win .
Why doesnt bookmakers priced up , would have made it very interesting how odds changes on a daily basis.
Suzette have 28 runners left of which 7 is at odds 10/1 or better. Plenty runners at Fairview tomorrow .....can she open an uncatchable gap at fairview???
Drakenstein have 5 runners left of which 4 is short in the betting and biggest runner is hotpot fav Rain in Holland on Saturday where first price is R250k for that race... can they snatch victory on the last day???
Van Niekerk have 11 runners left of which 5 is short in the betting . With 2 hotpot favorites today and a lot of runners on the big day Saturday . Can he come from behind and win in on Saterday also ?
EQUUS CHAMPION OWNER WILL NOT INCLUDE RESTRICTED STAKES.
Its the race of the season .... hope we can get Suzette Viljoen over the line!!!
Go go go Suzette Viljoen!!!!!

From other thread
Ok guys , it may have been confirmed above but I had a word with Vee.
This is the “official “ stand from NHRA
Ok Vee can you confirm official stats from NHRA stand.
Stallions, Breeders and Trainers are “excluded” from restricted stakes.
Owners and Jockeys are “included “ in restricted stakes.
Yes Dave 100%, this is official NHA position.
Vee
Hope this clarifies.

I will stick to the RULES OF EQUUS AWARDS as their panel stick to rules and dont use it just as guidelines....
Someone is very desperate after this post this morning .... its even been on teletrack to confirm what dave posted lol..... maybe dave must also ask the EQUUS panel , the panel that actually made the decision long ago ....

The NHA stats are what they go by Ziets and not the Eques panel it has been confirmed by Vee,when you go onto the NHA website and click on owners it automatically gives you the restricted races whereas if you go to trainers it automatically gives you the stakes without the restricted races you have to click on restricted races to get another total. However it is still very exciting and it will go down to the wire

A major deficiency of the owner stats is that each different partnership is treated as a separate owner, so the actual achievements of individual owners is hidden.
One would think that it would be a straightforward job for the NHRA to record the individual ownership % for each horse owned in partnership and to then be able to show the actual stakes earned by each owner which would include both those horses in their own name only as well as all their shares of stakes earned in partnership.

Exactly - also what does 'Champion Owner' actually mean in the bigger scheme of things - to me it just shows the people who are able to afford the most horses

Viljoen 1012 runs 86 wins 6.649 million
Drakenstein 523 runs 95 wins 6.396 million
Van Niekerk 600 runs 69 wins 6.213 million
All partnerships
using this logic Wernars sit on 7.4 million with 88 winners

The problem is that we don't know what the % ownership is- it would be wrong to include all partnerships at full stakes.

That's true and can change frequently
