JULY ante post early thoughts?
3 years 3 months ago
Was having an early look at the betting and have no indication what plans are being made?
I must say a few at the top of the boards I can't have
Kom 11/2, Line 7/1, Hoed 16/1, Warrior 16/1, GTGL 16/1 must be doubtful, do it again etc
My early thoughts with hopefully some inputs from Frodo, Peter D etc
Double 12/1, Safe 12/1, universal 20/1, desert 25/1 and Captain 33/1
Would also not recommend any early bets 🙄
Unless some words of wisdom come to the fore ?

I agree that one needs to wait; I would not take less than 20/1 about anything at this stage; I definitely can't have Double Superlative and not sure which of the Gauteng 3yr olds will throw their hat into the ring; only horse that I am considering at this stage is Hoedspruit - given his rating should Kommet or Jet Dark run, he will come in with a very handy weight - but at this stage we can't be sure what the plans are

A few weeks ago I posted 40/1 for Zeus. After his last win he has been trimmed to 33/1. I did put on a few pennies at 40/1. Only time will tell, that’s all.

After the Classic next Saturday you might get 75/1

The difference between a penny and a ha’penny is still a ha’penny.

Double Superlative
Road map:
WORLD SPORTS BETTING GUINEAS (Grade 2) - 1600m
DAILY NEWS 2000 (Grade 1) - 2000m
VODACOM DURBAN JULY (Grade 1) - 2200m
Would be nice to get odds on this treble. Everyone's talking about the weight he will carry, but not factoring in improvement.

Re: JULY ante post early thoughts?
3 years 3 months agoMARINA my early July fancy!
Also being eyeing this one, especially some multiples from Saturday and next week's Classic meeting at Turffontein (bettings out on the feature races), at 33/1 if she doesn't run, can't get too hurt. If you select the right ones over the next two weekends, it adds up never mind some are relatively short.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

It's possible to get odds but remember the deduction for same horse 🐎 😉

Re: JULY ante post early thoughts?
3 years 3 months agoI made a list of all the horses on Hollywoods antepost and assuming Jet Dark (top weight) will run, this is what they will carry with current merit ratings.

Waste of time at this stage unless you fancy a long shot that is currently unexposed or has ability but has been off form. The WSB prices are at 180% with the horses listed, so this is a bookies benefit and no value to punters. Including others that might emerge, you are getting half the fair value odds.
That said, a horse like Second Base on 53kg at 50/1 might be worth an ew flutter.

Agreed - ludicrous odds being offered at this stage (given this is still 'pre-nomination' - so one is not even sure who will be nominated) and also have to agree with SB at current odds - as things stand he will be at level weights with Hoedspruit - so I think the question to be answered in one's mind is if SB should be trading at more than double the odds compared to H - and for me the answer is clear
