I thought that after today, the July picture would be much clearer - but not for me

I never thought that Al Muthana would win at Greyville - but he proved me wrong; of course he now gets an entry into the July - but I really don't think he will be effective over more than 1600

Linebacker ideal prep imo - and one of the horses to beat in the July

Jet Dark - who knows after beaten today, he may as well have a crack at the July - don't think they will drop his rating though, so it is going to be tough off top weight

Russian Rock - I'd keep him in the race - whether he gets in is doubtful and will depend on who is taken out (maybe Marina ) - but finished less than 2 lengths behind at level weights today, so easy to think that he would have a realistic chance at the weights as he will be getting 4 kgs from Linebacker in the July - his rating could go up but only by 1 point imo

But my biggest surprise was the 3yr-olds; there was nothing in the KZN Guineas between Zapatillas and Supreme Warrior; today Linebacker beat SW by about 4.5 lengths giving him 1.5 kgs - so effectively around 6 lengths between them; in the July Zapatillas will receive 6 kgs from Linebacker - so in theory given the run of SW today, Zapatillas (and therefor also Pomp & Power and Safe Passage) should be right next to Linebacker - or even beat him - so a very open contest - as I think most expected ever since the noms came out

So I think it's going to come down to luck in running and tactics - 6/1 the field ?
