I recall the other day a jockey was replaced somewhere - so it's obviously a thing.

Not so sure fav punters would have liked to wait for a 100/1 chance getting a replacement jockey thou.

Nah I think he knew the horse wasn't fully fit so sat as much as he could to try and give her every chance,moved up but didn't go through with it the last 50 or so.
Us punters have to rely heavily on the trainers doing enough work at home for the horse to run to it's full ability.
Look at today and see how many fancied runners coming back from a break didn't run to their ability.

Desert Miracle and Big Burn where 20 and 27 MR points better off than the winner Humdinger.

So you see even if the horses are weighted to win we really don't know how fit the trainers have brought them to the course.
