Hello the Sporting Post refused to publish this
So… Mr Bortz we have connected the dots you so cryptically asked us to. This leads us to the conclusion that Mr Tony Peter treated his horses inhumanely by allowing his Vet to administer an entirely legal intra-articular injection to his horses. It is now common knowledge that the very same Vet treated your own horses under the care of your trainer in Gauteng. I would like to know if any of your horses had an intra-articular prior to a race with the very same intra-articular cocktail at the same time before their races as used by Mr Peter? To be clear, this was all done by all parties in accordance with NHRA Rules and Guidelines. I assume that the bill for this treatment was presented to you by the Vet and promptly paid for. I also assume that an astute businessman as yourself will have checked this bill carefully before paying.
Your speech is full of contradictions. Before the rule change, the NHA “allowed” intra-articular procedures, which you allude to as being “cruel and inhumane”, to be carried out 3 days before a race, but now the NHA will only allow intra-articular with exactly the same, alleged “dope” that your trainers also use, up to 7 days before the race. You admit that it is “ok” to use intra-articular treatment up to 7 days before the race. If such treatment is so “cruel and inhumane” as you alleged then why are you even ok with the procedure being done at all?
How can you say that intra-articular injections do not not show up in the blood or urine, that is absolute nonsense because once it has taken effect it is already in the blood stream. Surely, the closer you go to a race with it, more likely is the chance of it still being in the system, so I don’t know who is feeding you this misinformation or where you are getting your facts from. This is such a contradiction and you have, “in your speech of fame”, implicated yourself and proved to the horse racing fraternity that you are in cahoots with the NHA. Your “speech of fame” is loaded with errors and nonsense.
Two questions:
Why is it not seen as inhumane for you, your trainer and your Vet to perform the identical procedure as Mr Peter did?
Why do you have this ruthless, relentless persecution and victimization of a young and gifted horseman?
The emotional and reputational damage you have inflicted on this poor kid and his future is irreparable!
I say "Shame on you!!" and shame on the over-rated trainer who is behind this nefarious process! Go ahead... connect the dots.
You publicly and proudly stated that “as one of the racing operators, we get to fund the NHA” … “as a result of that I get to see the NHA budget and I get to see where money is spent and I get the opportunity to ask certain questions”. Now, I propose, why don’t you make public the Veterinarian Treatment Register of your trainers and Mr Peter should make his available. Since you insinuate that you have a say in the NHA then make this happen and walk the talk!!!
I also find it unethical and perplexed that a horse owner, such as yourself, can have a say in the NHA. What happened to the NHA being an impartial and independent regulatory body?
In your “speech of fame” you talk about integrity and transparency, you make statements such as “integrity of our sport is everything”, “we have an integrity issue” and “we cannot ever have the integrity of our sport questioned”. As you said, “you don’t want people to bury their heads in the sand”. I agree with you. So, lets connect the dots and refer everyone to the podcast published a year ago on YouTube titled ‘In The Box Seat – Greg Bortz’ in which you openly admit to being a fraud and law-breaker. I refer everyone to 14:10 to 20:10 of the podcast. I agree that there should be an absolutely zero tolerance to fraud and criminal acts being part of the horse racing industry. I declare a unilateral war on fraudsters having any association with the NHA. How can an industry be trusted in the hands of an individual who so arrogantly brags that they frauded their way into the USA.
I have nothing personal against you Mr Bortz, it is strictly transparency.

In America, you not even allowed to work your horse for 7 days if it had a intra articular injection
www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles...articular-injections
Under Rule 4222, the day of administration is considered day one. A horse may breeze on day eight following administration and may enter to race at any time, provided the race is on day 15 or later.

.....the NHA and it's predecessor the former Jockey Club have been led by the noses by some of those practicing professionals we know as Vets.....I was a real charlie back in the day when I tried to sell nutraceutical feed additives while all and sundry were bombing horses with steriods applied by the then Jockey club sanctioned vets....some trainers even condoned the very same vets to even administer Bute (Phenylbutazone) which was at that time and still is a banned substance....
Forbidden Substances Class 1 Phenylbutazone
These are substances considered by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities to be
“prohibited substances which are not to be administered to racehorses at any time during their
racing career”.
.....I cannot condone that a horse that receives a sharp object directly into a joint no matter the cocktail and is allowed to even work.....let alone race within 3 or even 7 days....a horse jars a joint....give it the needle and back off
.....FFS we do not shoot our children up with Voltarin so they can make the team/game on the up coming week end...:S

That’s something my 10 year old would say.
Nothing to see here for you, best you move along or you can listen again and easily find the devil in the detail.

Mac, do me a favour and listen to it. I am pretty certain he said cheaters and didn't mention Tony Peter's at all but some people seemed to have jumped to the conclusion that he named Tony. It seems that as soon as they heard cheaters they thought he was talking about Tony! They should in my book be worried than Greg.

He said look at the action the NHA has taken in recent weeks and connect the dots(including Press Releases)- Only one stable, the Peters , was raided and horses scratched (3 or so if I recall) - How this can be misinterpreted is beyond me and I'm sure any Court of Law would see it that way unless there are other trainers whose runners were scratched and we the public do not know about them(Then why would Mr Bortz make reference to action taken by the NHA) Not sure who the trainer is below...
OUT OF COMPETITION (OCC) TESTING - 24 JULY 2023 - INVESTIGATION UPDATE
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that, following Out of Competition Specimen Collection performed by its Officials at Randjesfontein Training Centre and Turffontein Racecourse on Monday, 24 July 2023, an investigation was conducted into the veterinary treatments of horses declared as upcoming runners.
Pending the results of the NHA Laboratory analysis, on-site observatory evidence along with evidence provided by the Officials and after careful consideration of the contents of the Veterinary Treatment Register (VTR), AXEL COLLINS, NAPOLEAN and YOURE MY SUNSHINE were withdrawn from race meeting on 27 July 2023 at 09h25, in terms of Rule 4.2.18.
The NHA Laboratory, having conducted the requisite screening, has confirmed that specimens collected from AXEL COLLINS and YOURE MY SUNSHINE, revealed upon analysis the presence of four (4) prohibited substances, of which one (1) substance was not recorded in the Trainer’s VTR. An Inquiry will be opened into the one (1) substance that was NOT recorded for each of the respective two horses.
The investigation thus far has raised a host of serious concerns in relation to horse welfare, including the liberal and regimented use of medications and/or treatments administered to horses during the days preceding racing and the accuracy of the recordal of such treatment in the relevant VTR. It appears that this practice has become widespread and therefore not limited to an individual Veterinarian or Trainer.
The NHA advocates a fair and level playing field for all horses and, most importantly, for only fit and healthy horses to participate in races. The initial findings of this investigation have raised a myriad of alarming concerns and the NHA is in the process of conducting further investigations into practices, methodologies, mitigatory procedures, as well as considering possible amendments to the Rules, in order to eliminate such practices that some stakeholders wrongly believe to be acceptable and humane!

exactly the point i was going to raise. several yards were visited not just one so it is not correct to say that mr peter has been specifically targeted. it is looking a bit of a case of me think the lady dost protest too much. least said best is usually the best stance.
