# More charity for Bingwa
David Thiselton
The Gr 2 Allied Steelrode On A Mission Charity Mile is the official highlight of the Turffontein Standside meeting today, but in terms of class it might well be upstaged by the Gr 3 Betway Graham Beck Stakes over 1400m.
Bingwa goes for a hat-trick of wins in the Charity Mile and not only has pole position but comes in off a good preparation. Pole is important for him because when races pan out well for him, he can match it with the best. S’Manga Khumalo up is another bonus.
Cousin Casey has done nothing wrong besides over-racing with blinkers last time out, so considering the horses he has mixed it with he should be right there from a good draw. Grant van Niekerk knows him best and flies in for the ride.
Meridius has a superb turn of foot and racing wide did not stop him from using it when winning a Listed race at Hollywoodbets Greyville in his penultimate start. He probably needed his last start.
Eye Of The Prophet is drawn well in three and will be fit. As the Gr 2 WSB Gauteng Guineas winner he has proven his suitability to course and distance.
Shoemaker became disappointing last season but then showed improvement with gelding. He wore blinkers in his final start in the Gr 3 Cup Trial over 1800 and travelled well enough, but he was just too far back. From a good draw here, he should turn for home closer and his resolute finish should give him a chance.
Hollywoodbets Durban July winner Winchester Mansion has come into his own since gelding, but this is his seasonal reappearance. He will enjoy the galloping track as he has a long-striding resolute finish and he should be staying on running fresh from a wide draw over a trip on the sharp side.
Safe Passage is a class act on his day and he has won well running fresh before, although this trip will be on the sharp side these days. This will be his second run after a layoff and he has a nice draw of six.
Union Square has shown signs of bouncing back to his best and like Shoemaker and Safe Passage represents the top yard of Mike de Kock, which is in fine current form. He could be a runner here, although he does have a tricky draw.
Dave The King is another De Kock entry and has shown glimpses of real class. He has topweight but should have come on from his last start and can use his giant stride to good effect on this galloping course.
Bless My Stars was Equus Champion Three-year-old filly last season and should be effective over this trip running fresh.
It is wide open but these are the ones who make most appeal and are selected in order of mention.
In the Graham Beck, Sandringham Summit used his fine turn of foot and long stride to fetch the well-drawn Main Defender and beat him easily when they met over a mile in the Gr 1 Champion Stakes at HWB Greyville.
However, Main Defender put up a blistering display this season over 1450m when annihilating a good field of older horses by 6,50 lengths in the Gr 2 Jo’Burg Spring Challenge over 1450m. This trip is down his alley and he not only has a run under the belt he also receives 1kg from Sandringham Summit, so there shouldn’t be much in it.
Sovereign State not only has class and stays a mile easily but has a high degree of natural speed, so he will be a big runner too receiving 3kg from Sandringham Summit and 2kg from Main Defender. He has a tricky draw but looks to be a relaxed type and can be dropped out in this field of ten before using his range of gears in the straight.
Gimmeanotherchance jumped from a wide draw in the Gr 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe over this trip and was only beaten 0,40 lengths by Sandringham Summit, although the latter did pull off the unusual feat of coming from last in a feature race on the tight HWB Greyville course.
Nevertheless, Gimmeanotherchance has undoubted class and not only represents the in-form De Kock yard but gets 3kg from Sandringham Summit.
Biofarmer makes most appeal of the others.
De Kock could win the Gr 3 HSH Princess Charlene Starling Stakes with White Pearl, a progressive daughter of exciting sire Danon Platina. She made the champion Mrs Geriatrix work hard last time at level weights and is now drawn in pole.
De Kock could also win the Listed Java Stakes over 2400m with promising stayer Trois Trois Quatre, although Black Thorn and Zeus should make bold bids too.
The Listed Golden Loom could go to the amazing Dyce, who has now returned from long layoffs twice without apparent ill effect.
It should be a fine day’s racing.
In the U.K. watch out for the Gaynor Rupert homebred God’s Window running in a Gr 1 at Doncaster at 15H10 SA Time.

With respect to the media release about the parade ring and new dress codes I sincerely hope that there will be an increase to the minimum dress code for the grooms who parade the horses.

Yet another EXCITING announcement from the 4Q clueless crew.
“The updated dress code will be disseminated to all stakeholders within the next 2 weeks”
Wow, unveiling the suspense and excitement of a dress code that will take 4Q another 2 weeks to decide on….. Someone please put up the warning signs "DO NOT DISTURB" and "MET AT WORK" at 4Q HQ for the next 2 weeks.
Cape Racing just makes 4Q look uber-pathetic

I agree on the racing and the 'Boks

My Soul Mate scratched - and in-form Jason Gates declared for Marigold Hotel ....
R2: Not sure about the Tarry runners (so they will probably run 1st and 2nd); Phantom Express for me - danger imo could be Out of the Mist - and watch out for the betting support on Lady Crusade and Spirited Girl
R3: American Star does look the right one; Jet Dynasty seems well weighted on a line through Total Surrender, while Scarlet Pimpernel was upped in ratings after his facile Maiden win, but may be better than his last run
R4: Competitive sprint where many seem closely matched - even Full Velocity has come down 9 points in the ratings and has Fourie riding
R5: Even though Mrs Geriatrix may not have been fully wound up when just managing to beat White Pearl, WP does look the right one - with obvious danger Egyptian Mau for some reason racing unshod behind, which may (or may not) indicate that EM will need a run or two

R6: Anticipated match race, no one knows how fit Sandringham Summit is, while Main Defender has had a (very impressive) run, so hard to split them; Gimmeanotherchance has reportedly needed his last run, and may challenge here as he ran SS close as juveniles from a wide draw
R7 Open handicap, where many will have different opinions; for me Bingwa as defending winner must have a chance of repeating (but that last run makes me wonder - maybe it was a flat 'second-run-after-a-rest'

R8: In-form Zeus makes a lot of appeal - dangers imo the up-and-coming Battleground and then the de Kock pair Black Thorn and Trois Trois Quatre who is yet to show that he really gets the trip
R9: Handicap, Royal Guide got upped 8 points in the ratings after easily beating a mediocre field at Scotsville last time, so my preference is for Silent War - go 6 points for his last win which imo was against a stronger field - these two seem to have the advantage at the weights from runners like Whafeef and Pyromaniac (may both need it); many others to consider, but I may be taking a chance on Silent War
Enjoy
