I had On her Toes in my Pick 6 and did not have either 2nd or 3rd in my pick 6 but please tell me what the difference is between this and the race held last Friday where the horse shifted in stipes objected and the one in front was relegated. No consistancy

Nice one BI - Well done. I am happy with the result. Just questioning the consistancy of the stipes. Not quite the same as race 01 Greyville 10/04/2009 but near as damn it.

There wasn't only a short head in it this time.

fair enough but Loupe had nowhere to go and may have been closer if she had space. Thanks for the response though. I was just interested to see what your take on this would be.

I may be wrong but I can't really think of an alternative explanation. Congratulations, Barry!

Maybe the stipes were making recompense for not putting up She's on Fire in the Rosenberg after Spring Garland nailed her twice in the final 50 meters!

JACK MILNER rxp

THE stipendiary stewards regularly get slated for things they do wrong, at times deservedly so, but yesterday at Scottsville they deserve praise for the ``no action’’ decision in the Grade 3 Sunday Tribune Umzimkhulu Stakes over 1400m.

When 12-10 favourite On Her Toes moved past second favourite Loupe with 200m to run she looked headed for a facile victory under Anton Marcus.

But she started shifting inwards, carrying Loupe with her. In the end Michael Azzie’s filly kept going to win by 0.50 lengths with Asian Affair touching off Loupe for second with Cocoa Beach getting fourth down the inside.

The hooter indicating an inquiry sounded, but in the end no action was taken. We are often trigger happy in this country when it comes to objections but the rules state that for an objection to be upheld, the question the stipes have to answer is: but for the interference, could the injured party have won the race or improved his position.

As Marcus said later: ``When I went past Loupe I thought the race was mine for the taking but she started hanging in and probably cost herself at least one length.’’

The fact that Loupe failed to get second spot was probably more the fault of fourth-placed Cocoa Beach who hung in onto Mike de Kock’s runner in the final 50m.

With On Her Toes having won four of four starts in KZN Azzie said they would now look at the Fillies Guineas. ``But if she doesn’t get a draw in the first seven, I will advise my clients not to run her. There are other races we can have a go at,’’ he said.

There was an upset in the Byerley Turk, the other Grade 3 event on the card, when 8-1 shot Polished Steel led all the way to hold off a fast-finishing Big City Life by 0.50 lengths. Dominion Legacy got third but unbeaten favourite Lord London was never in the hunt and finished sixth, beaten 4.25 lengths.

Barry-

Congratulations on your win.

The following response is NOT directed to you but to the stipes.

It would be interesting to hear from the stipes as to how they arrived at their decision. From a punters point of view, there is no consistency on their part.

My personal view is that the stipes decision is influencd by the fact that they are dealing with a trainer and owner of repute. IF THE HORSE THAT WON WAS FROM A SMALL STABLE, I AM CONVINCED THAT THE OBJECTION WOULD HAVE WENT THE OTHER WAY.

As a punter I would tell them "to the face",unless the stipes can prove otherwise.
All we need is another riot ala Gauteng of a few years back.

I hope a stipe or "someone in authority" is reading this and try and put this in perspective.

They are consistent in the usa and there NO contact rules are too extreme!

Thought in this case the jockey done his best to correct the horse, and the best horse on the day won?
