The way the clan went on.... PP should have been 4/10 fav...much like JJ...
1. Interbet was offering 3/1 until race day...bookies knew PP not so strong..
2. Owners did not punt PP...
3. BF (could not) say ...PP cannot beat BCL....(BCL was 16/1 then
4. These big races have become ....remember my story....stayers against PP...
5. punt woodruff on the 10th...recover your losses..if you can find bookies that can still pay.....90% must be O.U.T.......

The horse jumped slow and slightly inwards, also did my money but once he was at the back of the field his only option was to stay there and hope .... then they crawled along for 1200m and put paid to any chances to pass the whole field in the short Greyville straight.
One of those things that burn your arse but that's racing, I don't think Bernard did anything wrong.

This July will be determined by the ...... stayers.
Nevermind the draw, you jump, ride the horse flat, 400 meters to go, pull the stick, once, twice,......and the horse keeps on finding....
watch races further than 1600 meters.....
you ride them flat, 400 meters from home, pull the stick, ears @#$%&, second wind, kick again, skip clear of the field by 4 lenghts....the horse keeps finding...going away from the field...
Hope Pocket Power is as good as they think...
check the draws of the 1st 4 home....

If there was a half decent pace with Pocket not farting around 20 lengths off the lead he would have walked it, he did amazingly well just to finish 5th...

Pocket Power is as good as everyone thinks!!!!!! Even better, on the day things did not turn out the way a lot of people wanted it to turn out. That is racing, like i said before, its not only about formlines! Sometimes, most of the time, luck is a big factor, for the punter that is.
Big City Life ran a cracker, lets not forget that! MDK showed his tactical skills on the day and pulled off a feat no one could've guessed... that why the Quartet paid bombs.
Pocket still a champ, and champs do get beat! He finished 5th after coming out of the bend last. Lets not blame jockeys here. It was just a race run very tactically. How else do you beat the champ.... lock him out at the back and slow things down.

Tough day ,did well, got good qrt`s on Diamand Quest and Lady Windemere,BFs ride was not great but at the weight spreads this year PP could not win.I did not include him in any bets. When last did a decent 3yro carry a light mass in a July?.
If BF had a snowballs chance of making Big City Life`s weight he would have been offered the ride and taken it,Chyene had a great but simple ride and set the race up by the 300m mark.
BF is a good jock but knowing the danger of BCL he actually gave PP no chance , he dropped him to far off ,but thats racing and we all make mistakes ,and we only remember the bad rides and forget his great ones-and he will have many more great ones Im sure.
The July is a tough race to ride ,the pressure is always on and 1 mistake and its over,no matter the horse .

W Cape Bookmaker's Chairman Dean Finder said yesterday morning on Tellytrack that 'the money was pouring onto PP.' He added that no bookmaker in the country was behind PP winning - even though he said they 'enjoyed champs'.
So maybe Saksy has a point???????????????
I note the Mike Bass Racing website and the Pocket Power facebook group is blank - not a word after yesterday. Disappointing and poor sportsmanship! Not very professional either from the Bass yard - what about their website's regular visitors who want to know what happened??????????

I am one of the biggest conspiracy theorists around, but I have have never heard so much utter hogwash.
There was one problem and only one problem with this race, and that was the pace.
The time of 135.55 was 3 seconds slower than last years winner, and 0,5 slower than the 'Consolation' race run a few hours earlier.
The 1st four horses past the post were lying 1-3-4-5 coming off the false rail.
Pocket Power gave weight and start, commiting the cardinal sin,and he had exactly no chance trying to quicken from off a slow pace. His run was in fact remarkable in the context of how the race panned out.

Squanda just to let u know the top 3 were all out the weights on ratings.
Russian Sage carried 51.5 last year and never got a blow in.
Incidently this years race was won in a time that was beaten by 19/20 runners in last years race. That equates to around 15-20 lengths!
A tactical farce in my book...
