I also had a problem believing this statement. Maybe someone who owns horses in Phumelela country can elaborate and have a look at their last winner's cheque...

25% is paid by the Operator (Gold Circle or Phumelela) and 75% comes out of Stakes (so effectively paid by the owner).

Yes if the RA pays, the money comes from the RA kitty which is from members of the RA contributions.
The 7% or 10% deductions comes from the stake cheque from Phumelela and is taken from the winning owners cheque.
Not sure what the riding fee is R400/R500? and a few deductions come from that for accident fund, UIF?? I would guess, Tex Lerena would have the detail.

There is a riding fee for each race (25% by operator and 75% by stakes pot). The operators (both Gold Circle and Phumelela) pay a percentage into a stakes pot. Whether or not an owner is a RA member the 75% comes from that stakes pot to the jockey.

Should the jockey have a win or a place then they get a % of the stakes - negotiated with the owners (so not linked to the operators).

With regards to Zimbabwe I don't know how it works, we're not involved.

Hope that helps.

oscar your understanding of sarcasm is patently lower than my ability to write it. i try say the nhra are doing you a favour by allowing you to spend millions on the sport that pay there wages. my fight is not with you so please lets understand my point here.

margaret thank you for your explanation however i still do not understand.

we understand the winning % are paid 100% by ownwrs, so if jock win or place the operator pay them out stakes immediately.

the 500 odd riding fee, lets make it that for simplification. are you saying that pge ( the operators ) pay 125 and the ra 375? if that are the case, then what happens when piet pompies an owner of a horse is not a ra member? does the ra pay regardless? if they do, as a ra member i am going to be very pissed off, its like belonging and paying for a club where the general public come in for free.

Mad Mike - the RA doesn't pay the fee it comes from the Stakes Pot (the 75%).
