Scottsville Race 8 Betting Percentage-135%

Has Natal abdicated from the Republic of South Africa?

Their bookmakers certainly have, because the complaints that I have seen on this site and others almost always are about Natal. The race time bookmakers betting % is 135.25% according the IB.What happened to the supposed 120% race time betting.Bitching and moaning really is tiresome, but right now I'm out of form and tired of being fleeced.

And funny that the only horse SERIOUSLY backed won the race too.

The way they bet in the last race is a disgrace. What they would argue is that the race had a very open look to it. I agree but then horses like Iceblink should have traded at about 80/1 or even 100/1.

How stiff was I for backing the runner up?!!!!?!?!?!?
(At the wrong price nogal!!!!)

Guys...

Question..Why are we so concerned about the betting percentages...value for money...and all the other english words we can think up...

reality is...
there are no bookmaker that can lay you R250K every race...on the jump...

ON THE JUMP...
else they get to these innocent guys riding the horses...

so..are we arguing..debating the R10 bets...

So was 135% the highest of the day? sounds like the rest were closer to the promised 120 then? Very hard too if nearly impossible to make a book these days..

Its true guys to make a "book" is almost impossible, except the July etc, you tend to lay to the top couple of favs and hope for a result.
Well thats what happened to me in the good old Bosman Days.

I agree it is hard making books as punters come for only a select few horses, but then maybe it is only because they try and lay the other runners at cramped odds.

It is a business right? They should be supplying to the demand. If the demand is there for a horse to be layed at a certain price then they should be offering what they think the market could handle.

Now if they bet 5/1 the field (like in the last yesterday) and just about 10/1 six other horses and only the bottom three at half attractive oddes, surely thats no value?

I agree we should not sweat the small bets but then the bet I had on Iceblink was not small and I still feel I got thieved......

Good point, Tommy Hotspur!

My recent betting activity ( on horses ) is now tiny and based almost entirely on Interbet. How, for example, is winning a grand or two going to help me in the present climate?

I have lost count of the number of occasions where no odds AT ALL are even offered on the roughies which I enjoy backing. Furthermore - I 'know' absolutely nothing so am simply having an educated guess. Surely the market should want to take me on all day long?

To add insult to injury - putting in a request at the advertised price on a long shot will generally elicit an offer well under the odds. It would actually be more polite to just tell me to get lost. Which is effectively what I have done insofar as horseracing is concerned.

I have always been first to complain re:percentages.

However reality vs theory

Lets say I have a book even 5000 on the fav 4000/1000 and 5000/1000 , so holding 7000 and hope for a result, along comes along Garrick looking for a grand on a 50/1 shot at 66,000/1000, now what bookie wants to take the chance to lose 59,000 on what should be a winning race.

It would be different if we had 20 Garricks all looking for a grand on the 10/1 shots, 12/1 shots and 20 shots in the same race.

You might well use the example of a BIG exchange Betfair where they are "trading" on 100/1 shots at 200/1 and better which also has an effect on the overall percentage at the off, but many are just "trading" money in and out at small percentages and cannot be used as an apple to apple comparison.

Percentages always a good subject, maybe the gent on Tellytrack, Dean may have a few words on the subject?

i thought interbet was supposed to be the place for the bookies to do their trading, so the R66k exposure can be taken back amongst however many want it. for the bookies that take back the 'old' way, i can see that it's hardly worth the cost of the phone calls if you end up sharing Garrick's R1000 four ways and you risk looking like a lightweight, but surely on an exchange like interbet that should be a doddle.

Most bookmakers (>90%) play on the following system..

Exceptions in races..
That is if the bookmaker is not related to a trainer..
That is if the bookmaker did not grow up with the jockey..
That is if the bookmaker did not pay to have the fav pulled..

Evens Horse-1
2/1 Horse-2
3/1 Horse-3
5/1 Horse-4
8/1 bar

Horse-1 R10,000/R10,000...full R10k
Horse-2 R5,000/R2500......half of the fav

the rest
they take back on interbet
that the reason almost all horses are backed..on interbet
it's the same R1000 going around and around..and around..

33% of fav win..

so percentages are meaningless today..

33% of favs win, fav priced at evens = 50% chance.

overround per fav = 17%

6% tax

fastest way to lose your dosh

Greenbook..

there are about 104 bookmakers in gauteng..

When the RACING INDUSTRY get RINGFENCED later this year..
very few bookies will make a living from PUNTERS..
just not enough cash to pay everyone...
same with owning horses...wont be able to buy horses as a tax dodge..

you can no longer subsidise your horses and bookmaking venture from the other business you have...

like in the past..every attorney and doctor had a farm..
they could write the expenses from the farm, off against their practise..they no longer can..

meyersdal...2 entire complexes..the rent gets washed via a bookie every month..
the complexes are in seperate companies...
so the directors make loans to the companies to pay the bonds..(maxed)
the rent is collected cash..washes the money via the bookies..pay the 6% tax..
Nigerians washed money via the bookies on soccer bets..
R200k/R200k..the bookies subtracts 20%..6% tax..

The same applies forthe BOOKMAKERS NETT WORTH..

All Gauteng Bookmakers each have only R150K guarantee..
and another R50K with GOBA...which they cannot draw..paid off at R200 per week in the past...
The license is worth max R5k and not R1m as generally believed....
especially when the INDUSTRY is ringfenced....

Most if not all rent the venues that they operate from..
The computer equipment is outdated within 2 months......
So what do they have of value..
cant remove anything from the venue..the landlord owns the alterations..
so what do they have...
A tote that brings in between R40K and R80K per month..anyone can get a tote..

so what do they have...
BAD DEBTORS BOOK.......
Mugs punters doing R50 per bet..
Soccerbets at R10 each..........

Unless you are related to a trainer or jockey..know which short priced fav to lay.....on credit only..
Not that anyone with cash will play with bookie..can get better odds on interbet..

SO GREENBOOK....there is NO DOSH to be lost....figment of the industries imagination...
