Two things

Mala Mala off 52 only gets beat if track heavy.

Hibs something wrong with your camera. The phote of all the Bikini girls seems to have tanned all the models. Just check those settings.

I know the sansui TV' have a similar fault so perhaps just the make of your camera.

Mala Mala

like the Dick Turpin fable of BLACK BESS, we will have to wash mala mala in diluted brandy to ensure the horse does not overheat...

the risk we run..the jockey could be licking the horse all the way home..

JACK MILNER - Two longshots have been backed to win Saturday’s R2-million Sansui Summer Cup to be run over 2000m at Turffontein on the standside track. Cape Town and Catmandu were both quoted at 100-1 for the Grade 1 race but a R50,000 claim on each of the runners has seen their odds cut. Cape Town is on offer at 66-1 with Catmandu now at 55-1.

Catmandu was always highly rated by his late trainer, Andre Kirsten, and has a third to Eddington in the Champions Challenge, run over the same course and distance, to his credit. The Makaarem six-year-old loads of ability but has been unsound. He is currently trained by Barend Botes and word from the yard is that he is a lot sounder right now.

Catmandu has only had two runs since joining the Botes yard and did not perform badly when 8.45 lengths behind Seattle Ice in the Charity Mile November Handicap over 1600m last month. He was poorly drawn at No 12 and according to apprentice Donavan Mansour, he had his work cut out to avoid El Padrino, who broke down in front of him.

Mansour will partner Catmandu in the Summer Cup and this time they are drawn at pole position. He loves soft underfoot conditions so any rain during the week will work in his favour.

Cape Town had his first outing at Turffontein on Sunday since running 5.85 lengths off Big City Life in the Vodacom Durban July. Running over 1000m, a distance well short of his best, Gavin van Zyl’s charge did well to finish a four-length third to Royal Exit.

Prior to the Durban July Cape Town came from near last to finish a two-length second to Tropical Empire in the Betting World 1900 at Greyville, with River Jetez behind him. He carries just 53kg and will be ridden by apprentice Aldo Domeyer on Saturday. However, they will have to jump from barrier No 15.

Charles Laird’s unbeaten New Zealand-bred colt Oracy remains favourite at 22-10 with Magical from the Ormond Ferraris yard, second favourite at 3-1.

Oracy - like father like son
David Thiselton

The two most valuable thoroughbreds in training in South Africa at the moment are likely the Vodacom Durban July winner, Big City Life, and the current Summer Cup favourite, Oracy, who like the champion Pocket Power are both magnificent performers on the turf but unlike him are both entires with promising stud careers ahead of them.
Oracy, now unbeaten in five starts, won the Grade 2 Dingaans as a three-year-old at last year’s Summer Cup meeting in just his second racecourse appearance despite running very green in that he didn’t appear to want to let himself down and had to be hard-ridden by Christophe Soumillon.

An Australian breeder in the country at the time watched and commented, “He’s a typical Zabeel.” Oracy’s sire is the record-breaking New Zealand sire, Zabeel, who became the first stallion in the world to have 12 Group 1 winners from his first four crops. Zabeel’s greatness owes a lot to his sire, the legendary Sir Tristram. His dam, Lady Giselle, a twin by Nureyev, was so puny that Sir Tristram refused to accept her the first time she was sent to him and it was a year later that the intended mating took place. Zabeel’s progeny typically only fill out when they are four-years-old. However, they are known to be tough and with a tremendous will to win.

As three-year-olds that desire to win transcends the fact that they are only half made up. Oracy’s win in the Dingaans and later in the Grade 2 Gauteng Guineas were two cases in point.
His immaturity was particularly evident in the Guineas, which took place in late February, three months after the Dingaans.
It also showed just how big his heart is. Anton Marcus drove him into the lead half-way down the straight, but he then hung right out to the outside rail.
Three horses came at him and overtook him in the final stages, but he gave his all to the line and, although it seemed impossible that he had won on the original viewing of the race, the photo-finish showed that he had just got his nose up. Oracy recently made his comeback after an eight month break and Anton Marcus felt that he could not win considering his homework. However, he stormed clear to beat a top class field. The will to win was displayed again as he defied his homework, but more importantly it showed that he has filled out and matured and can now do it naturally. His conditioner Charles Laird is not only the current champion trainer, but is also a former handicapper, and has shown his expertise in preparing a horse for the big races from a long way out before.
His preparation of Hunting Tower to win the July in 2007 was a good example.

Giving Oracy a break at a time when first the Gauteng Triple Crown seemed at his mercy and secondly as the Kwazulu-Natal Champions season beckoned, might turn out to be his latest master stroke. The potential this horse has considering what he achieved when so immature is mouthwatering and the fact that he is a Zabeel adds more to the mix. The “big three” races in South Africa are the July, the Summer Cup and the J&B Met. Laird’s chief patron, Markus Jooste, has been champion owner for the last two years and has tasted plenty of feature race success, but is yet to win any of these three races. Laird has won the July, but the Met and the Summer Cup are missing from his CV. His careful nurturing of Oracy will now give himself and Jooste a crack at all three of the big ones.

Previews of 5 weekend feature races - by Ryan Roberts

SANSUI SUMMER CUP
SELECTIONS NO 2 ORACY
NO 9 MAGICAL
NO 16 RUDI ROCKS
NO 3 EIGHT STREET

The biggest test to date for the New Zealand bred NO 2 ORACY. A winner of all five starts to date which included the Gauteng Guineas and last years Dingaans. Returning from a layoff of more than six months he showed his undoubted ability by giving Seattle Ice two and a half kilos and a sound beating. While NO 2 ORACY has not yet tried this trip of 2000m before, his breeding does suggest it should be no problem and as he usually finishes his races full of running. He is going to take some catching. NO 9 MAGICAL was clearly not disgraced when runner up to Seattle Ice in the November Handicap over 1600m which is not his very best trip. He should be much better suited to this course and distance and is one and a half kilos better off with ORACY for a 2.6 length beating. Jockey Piere Strydom has taken the ride on this Ormond Ferraris gelding. Trainer Charles Laird has five entrants and NO 16 RUDI ROCKS and NO 3 EIGHT STREET finished first and second in the Victory Moon Handicap two weeks ago and renew rivalry here and as RUDI ROCKS is better off at the weights we are selecting him to improve past EIGHT STREET and both make good back up to ORACY in exotics. NO 8 CAPTAIN SCOTT and NO 15 ASLAN are two others to consider.
BETTING (as of MONDAY 23 NOVEMBER):

2/1 ORACY
28/10 MAGICAL
6/1 CAPTAIN SCOTT
7/1 RUDI ROCKS
8/1 EIGHT STREET
12/1 ASLAN MEETMEATMALAMALA
25/1 and upwards the balance of runners

VODACOM DINGAANS (GRADE 2 1600M TURFFONTEIN SATURDAY 28 NOVEMBER)
SELECTIONS NO 3 GALILEOS GALAXY
NO 1 EXHILERATION
NO 2 BULSARA
NO 4 HAVASHA

A smashing field of top class three year olds clash and the Australian import NO 3 GALILEOS GALAXY gets the vote to win. Trained by Charles Laird and ridden by Anton Marcus this import is seeking a hattrick and has been very impressive to date. Making his debut against winners at Clairwood in July he beat a field of previous winners by lengths. He had NO 1 BULSARA two and a quarter lengths behind and with only a two and a half kg swing in BULSARA'S favour he should again have the beating of the Gavin Van Zyl trained inmate. NO 1 EXHILERATION may turn out to be his biggest danger. EXHILERATION ridden by bang inform Gavin Lerena and trained by Dominic Zaki is well drawn in 3 and is a strong front running type who is distance suited and is ultraconsistent. NO 4 HAVASHA trained by Mike De Kock and ridden by Kevin Shea again has a difficult to overcome draw but the extra 200m will suit him better and he is definitely not out of it. NO 6 GALANTHUS was well supported in the betting market to beat GALILEOS GALAXY last time and was clearly not disgraced. He is also two and a half kilos better off so is capable of going close. He is the mount of Piere Strydom. The other two Australian imports NO 9 CURVED BALL and NO 10 FLYBYME are lightly raced and unexposed so can be included in larger pemutations.

DEFY MERCHANTS (R450000 GRADE 2 1160M SATURDAY 28 NOVEMBER TURFFONTEIN)
SELECTIONS NO 1 SHARKS BAY
NO 12 COOL SPENDER
NO 6 CARBON LEADER
NO 10 MASSIMILIANO

Definitely not the strongest field of sprinters lined up for this event and if returning to track fit then NO 1 SHARKS BAY is going to prove the one too beat. This Australian bred four year old was a good runner up to OUR GIANT in the Mercury Sprint in July. That really sets the standard here and trainer Dennis Drier and jockey Sean Cormack knows what it is like to come and win feature races on the Highveld. He is distance suited and has won all four of his races around this type of trip. It is a handicap however so there are many dangers to my selection. NO 12 COOL SPENDER is ultraconsistent and is in tremendous form at the moment and ran away with a feature earlier this month and with a nice galloping weight he should once again contest the finish. NO 6 CARBON LEADER was narrowly beaten in his latest and that was a much improved run and with an inform trainer and jockey Alec Laird and Felix Coetzee he is capable of an upset. NO 10 MASSIMILIANO won his first two starts well and then was a bit disappointing but did not run a bad race over 1400m last time . He may be better over this trip and has jockey Piere Strydom up. He clearly needs to be included in all permutations. NO 2 SOUTH COUNTRY is a very decent sprinter but may find this a touch too far for him but only the race will tell. There are many other runners in this lineup that are capable of winning such as NO 11 CYBER CASE, NO 13 ARABIAN MIST, NO 8 RENEGADE and NO 4 LIGHTNING LECTURE.

GOMMAGOMMA FILLIES GUINEAS (R275000 GRADE 3 TURFFONTEIN RACE 5 SATURDAY 28 NOVEMBER)
SELECTIONS NO 5 SIDERA
NO 2 QUALITY ALONE
NO 1 LAVERNA
NO 4 FISANI

Trainer Mike De Kock has a very strong chance of winning this with his three talented fillies. I am siding with the unbeaten NO 5 SIDERA to win. She was an impressive winner of both starts to date and the extra 200m of this race should in actual fact suit her even more. Jockey Anthony Delpech was aboard her both wins and has stuck to her and as he has ridden and won on all three of the stables runners I am assuming that NO 5 SIDERA is the stable elect. I am suprised that jockey Anton Marcus has chosen the ride on NO 6 GENEROUS ANNA as stable companion NO 2 QUALITY ALONE has the look of the better of the two Charles Laird entrants. NO 2 QUALITY ALONE is going for a hattrick of wins and has a win already over NO 1 LAVERNA over this distance and jockey Raymond Danielson must be well pleased on picking up this mount. NO 1 LAVERNA may have needed her latest when a bit disappointing when finishing fourth behind Captains Gal. She will have to improve on that run to win this but clearly can make the placings here as Kevin Shea has the plum draw of 1. NO 4 FISANI was a very good runner up to PIERRE JOURDAN in a restricted feature in her latest and looks a decent filly. Trainer Charles Laird obviously rates NO 6 GENEROUS ANNA very highly so will be hoping for a far better run from her so she does need to be watched. It will be a major shock if any of the runners were to upset here.

TARSUS RACING ASSOCIATION HANDICAP (GROUP 3 R225000 TURFFONTEIN SATURDAY 28 NOVEMBER)

SELECTIONS NO 1 SANTA
NO 2 STARZENE
NO 5 WESTERN WALK
NO 3 GOLD ON GOLD

A very difficult race and I am hoping that NO 1 SANTA puts his disappointing last run behind him and comes good to win this. He will be ridden by Jockey Piere Strydom and trained by Ormond Ferraris. Santa has topweight but has finished runner up on both outings over this course and distance and if back to his best he deserves to win this. There are many with winning chances and NO 2 STARZENE was a very easy winner of her latest but was heavily penalised by the handicapper and has to jump from the extreme outside stall. Nevertheless she needs to be included in all bets. NO 5 WESTERN WALK is a winner over this course and distance and seems to be coming to hand so should be considered. NO 3 GOLD ON GOLD may have just needed his latest and makes a very good coupling with his stable mate SANTA for the Jackpots and Pick Sixes. NO 6 ROYAL CAPTIVE ridden by Anton Marcus for Sean Tarry should run well this distance and should be looked at. Trainer Mike De Kock has three runners and all are in with a winning chance with maybe the much improved NO 7 DANCING LADY the best of them.
