TRAINER Kobus Roux has been warned off after his runner, Tara’s Flight, tested positive for a banned substance.
The National Horseracing Authority (NHA) confirms that at an inquiry held last Friday, Roux was found guilty of a contravention of Rule 73.2.4 in that he was the person responsible for the horse, Tara's Flight, at the time when a specimen taken from this horse after it had participated in and won Race 9 run at Arlington Racecourse on 11 June 2010, disclosed upon analysis the presence of Flunixin and Furosemide, which are prohibited substances in terms of the Rules of the National Horseracing Authority.
Taking into consideration Roux’s previous contraventions of this same Rule over a period of five years, the Board imposed a penalty of a warning off. Roux has the right of appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed.
Further, in terms of Rule 72.3.2 Tara's Flight has been disqualified from that race.

How on earth will any trainer be tested positive for the use of EPO as it presents itself as a natural hormone . And they call this a sport ,when in my opinion most trainers should be sent to training school and then they would be able to actually do their job which is training athletes not drugging them .How many trainers in SA can stand up and say they do not use banned substances?????

So all the horses that were with Fritz moved to Kobus....took a while to get going and then started winning a few (Sarah Em in PE) and now he is also warned off!?!?!??!?!
The proof will be when these owners finally send their horses to half reputable yards and the horses either win the July or never run a place again.
If you want to cheat, you must get put in the cupboard!!!!!

Could not agree more with now Kobus Roux's warning off as he is not simply racing a horse on medication but has deliberately tried to cheat by the presence of 2 types of medication. Trainers are not chemical engineers and most will avoid getting into a mess besides a chemical engineer is a person that formulates production plants and chemical processes to manufacture chemicals. Dabbling in concoctions is vetenary science gone wrong. We and any person with any savvy can access the internet and become "muhtimen" but one would have to be pretty thick to think that anyone can get away with it especially when all the information is taken into account.
It seems obvious that Tara's Flight had a leg problem and thus Flunixin was administered but for it to be found in the system it had to be injected no longer than the very day of the race.
Flunixin a non-steroidal anti-inflammetary is four times as potent on a mg per mg basis as phenylbutazone as measured by the reduction in lameness and swelling in the horse. Plasma half-life in horse serum is 1.6 hours following a single dose of 1.1 mg/kg. Measurable amounts are detectable in horse plasma at 8 hours post injection.
The other substance found was a Fluresamine(Lasix) which is a duretic and used as a purging agent and is supposed to aleviate EIPH(Bleeding). It is for the reasons that Lasix can be used as a purging agent that it will never be legalized in RSA. Besides it has more detriment than positives for bleeders and non bleeders alike, despite what some vets and trainers will try to con people into believing. Old money, new money and no money have no right to cheat and I doubt that the really need to but I cannot agree that there is a conspiracy at the NHRA that protects old and new money by making an example of no money.
EPO in race horses is a myth, it simply cannot work, it is designed "engineered" for humans and we and the equine species are vastly different. It would be easier to kill a horse with EPO than to get it to run a race.

Why dont we get the jockey club to display the sample id's on a web screen, the progress on each testing, and the findings.
testid, horse name, date, course, racecourse, raceid, testing stage, day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4,day 5, day 6, day 7.
do the tests not take 7 days?
or will this be a shocker to the racing public?
if they do, we will have some fun...?????
what happened with transparancy to the public..
maybe they have to have a SOLVENCY II or BASEL III regulatory body too.....

Bob
I have a serious question for you on the Roux doping.
Please post
Hippodrome beat Gotham Prince and was found to be positive. The NHRA ruled that all winning stakes be refunded and redistributed.
Despite this ruling and several follow ups the money has not been redistributed and Hippodrome has raced since.
Are the rules just there for show and have there been any follow ups to the owners trainer and jockey to press for the money outstanding ?
For the record a big PE owner and punter stood to land a very big accumulated bet on Gotham Prince and it went out.
Surely there is a case of fraud here and he can be charged criminally or face civil actton?

Good luck trying to prove in court that Hippodrome would not have won, were it not for the prohibited substance. It's practically impossible.

.....2 sides to the coin.....made a killing the day Hippodrome won (did not know it was a drug store handicap).....and missed a very large P6 payout when Tara's Flight
won (I pondered over this one but excluded as the form indicated that horse had problems)but this aside and not talking from the pocket.....the latter was definitely set up and good luck to Mr Roux should he wish to appeal but even for a 1st offence he will have a hard time that he made a mistake and taking into account that an attempt was made to flush medication pre race. He would have a chance if he can proove that Tara's Flight is also prone to bleeding.....but seriously if he gets off then he opens the door for a precident that all trainers can cheat until getting caught and then get 1 warning. Racing horses on medication is dangerous and that is why it is prohibited, numbing problematic legs generally leads to serious breakdowns which is cruelty to the animal and puts all horses and jockeys in danger. The man is playing with lives and an example must be made.

People who medicate horses to influence the outcome of races have no place in the sport and should be warned off for life and made an example of in the national media...
