Calling any jockey

I noticed that W Kennedy,in race 1 at Fairview, whilst fighting out the finish, sits back on the saddle at least a dozen times in the closing stages...never seen that before.(can see it clearly in slow motion and that it is unique as no other jockey gets anywhere near the saddle)
Is that just a riding style or was that perhaps an equipment failure of some sort?

I don't know....I have just never noticed it before...maybe it is just a style but cant imagine it would help the forward momentum,so interested in an informed opinion.

My question is a genuine interest in the technicalities of that style ie.is it OK at the academy etc.

I had no bet in the race so have no interest other than curiosity.
It's why I asked a Jockey!

Bouncing in the saddle isnt taught at the academy but it is a technique some of the jocks have picked up (Lloyd, Shermon Brown & obviously Warren) I think its more of a rythym thing than anything else. Personally I think it has to affect a horses back but thats just my opinion.

Rob i never saw the race but an apprentice is not taught at the academy to bounce, once they leave the academy jockeys adapt their own riding styles. If i recall Sherman Brown as an apprentice never used to bounce in the saddle ( i stand to be corrected).

The other point of interest, and as a golfer Mark you can comment....I have noticed how a steady head seems to be important in a lot of sports(I notice cos I'm a golfer I guess) and some of the really successful jock's heads don't move at all(relative to the horse). Then again some bob up and down like mad.Is there a theoretical "right way"

A,without putting you on the spot, would you regard that as "developing bad habits" ....all sportsmen do it to some extent!

The horse was extremely green in running running about and looked like he couldnt really assist it fully.I think he was battling with his balance due to the horse racing so green.
