JACK MILNER - A MASSIVE drop in class should pave the way for Jargon to win Race 4 at Flamingo Park today.
Vernon Rugg’s charge has been taking on far stronger company than he meets in the MR 77 Handicap over 1400m.�
If one goes back to the middle of last year, Jargon scored two successive victories over 1200m and 1400m respectively. Those were in MR 71 handicaps where the average rating was 65 in the 1200m event and 71 in the 1400m race.
Jargon then finished a neck second to You’re The Man in a MR 77 Handicap over 1200m and followed with a superb 0.50-length second behind In Awe in a Pinnacle Plate.
In August Rugg raced Jargon in a MR 80 Handicap over 1600m where he was beaten just 2.25 lengths after suffering interference at the start.
The Kenyan-bred seven-year-old was then rested until November when he contested two MR 92 Handicaps, getting well beaten in both.
This will be his third run after a layoff and Jargon renews his association with jockey Gunter Wrogemann, who rode him to both victories last year.
Jargon is well drawn at No 3 and with the average merit rating for this race being 70, he should be hard to beat. He could also provide good value for punters.
Springbok Summer is not the most consistent of runners but has a good record over the course and distance and should be next best. Muzi Yeni rides.
Peter Miller’s runners can never be ignored and Asmera, who has not won since November 2008, should again finish in the money.
