The White Horse made a good debut at the Vaal the other day, and if you've never seen him he is exactly what his name suggests. My grey greats have included Miss Averof, who won the greys only race in Jhb twice, Jamaican Music, and the then Rhodesian superstar Chesterfield. My first winner was the almost white Spark Of Peace, so I love greys too!

Hi Magic I also remember Chesterfield, was trained by George Connelly, I think , colours were red and black, the same man also stitched up my forehead after I ran into a brick!!. Miss Averof was she owned by Hilda Podlas , if she was also loved that filly, a great turn of foot if I'm correct.

Spot on on both counts, Last Watch!
Chesterfield was without a doubt the best horse to grace Borrowdale, at least until Ipi Tombe came along. He won the Castle Tankard in 1972, which was the first race commentary I ever listened to on the radio...and a lifetime in racing was born. Blame it all on a grey named after a cigarette, but that's what got me going!

Magic do you recall the name of the winner of one of those White Horse races in about 1986/87 ridden by Striker for either Warren or Stenger? I backed it in a tote in Kzn while on a matric farewell holiday - It won paying about R14 a win which amounted to many bottles of Squadron Rum( the drink of choice for us hooligans) The clubs on the waterfront and Tong Lok resturant were really thankful there was only one White Horse race that year I think!!!

I have a picture of her staring me in the face here at the office, taken after her July win. Beautiful filly!
