Wasn't it Bodrum that was beaten by Rule By The Sword? Another fine grey, though a bit temperamental, was Bodrum.

Re: Re: Wolf Power
15 years 6 months agoOne to watch out for on Saturday is Monet`s Garden trained by
Nicky Richards, the old grey runs in the Betfair Chase at Ascot.
Richards has had the horse shipped to Newmarket to make sure they
have him in top condition.
Here`s a coincidence for us ,he is being stabled at Wragg`s "international"
satelite yard where the Auz and American horses where based for their Ascot
Campains and bides in the same stall as Takeover Target did before winning
at Royal Ascot

Noble Heir deserves an honourable mention. She may not be absolute top class but she's got guts and as Johnny G said three times in his interview she is quick.

Bodrum won the Hawaii Stakes in 1984, and he was beaten a year later into second, by Rule By The Sword, in the same race. I'm not sure that Wolf Power and Rule By The Sword ever met in the race, but I stand to be corrected... However, Wolf Power once beat a horse in the Queens Plate, caled Rise and Rule
{yes racing trivia from the 80's and 90's is one of my passions!!!}

A horse called Ludwig. This grey was found wandering on a farm in the Western Cape with a water bath tied around his neck, so the story goes. When they untied it from him apparently he took off at top speed. When he ran he ran with his neck tilted to the right (this they say was from the rope that caused him some damage) He was a very good sprinter and won a number of races.

On the subject of greys, Silver by Nature won the Blue Square Chase by 15 lengths at Haydock and might go for the Scottish Grand National, the question is why not Aintree?
