Press Release - KENILWORTH RACING SUNDAY 6 June 2010
While Greyville Racecourse on Saturday will obviously be the focal
point of the South African Racing weekend, the Grade 3 Betting World
Langerman will be run for a stake of R150 000 over the Kenilworth
winter track 1500m and this two year old feature always provides an
interesting contest and is an early indicator of two year old strength.
Having won the 2009 running with the smart Casey Tibbs gelding, Cree
Lodge, Dean Kannemeyer is very keen to make it a double with Stormy
Affair, who also runs in the purple and white Raymond Deacon silks.
The good looking son of Dynasty impressed at his first start over the
Kenilworth 1200m straight on 1 May, when despite being tardily away,
he powered away from his opposition over the final two hundred meters
to win going away. Dean trained his mother, Torrential Rain by Al
Mufti, who only had one run before being forced into early retirement
through injury. " She had the makings of a top-class racehorse and ran
third at her one and only start in the Jack Mitchell silks . Gary
Player, who bred Stormy Affair, phoned me twice from America this week
to chat about his progress and the fact that he is going to send
Torrential Rain back to Dynasty, a sire who is certainly doing the
job!" he said.
When questioned about the jockey arrangements, Dean explained: " Karl
Neisius rode him first time out and was pretty impressed by what he
felt. There was plenty of merit in the win as my first-timers are not
tuned up generally, and he settled like an intelligent horse. I wanted
Karl, and he was keen, to ride him at 0,5kgs over but as he rides in
Durban on Saturday and his flight only arrives in Cape Town on Sunday
at 11 am, he would not have time to get to the sweatbox. I have thus
engaged crack lightweight rider Morne Winnaar. He will jump from the
number 1 draw, and on breeding he should enjoy the extra three hundred
meters. He has not seen the Kenilworth turn but only four of his
opponents have. So it's much of a muchness and I was impressed by his
maturity first time out. Depending on this run, I will probably put
him away until the springtime. We do rate him!" he said.
Of his other runners at Kenilworth on the day, Dean said that both
Graham Beck first-timers in the first race, Eskimo Roll and Variety
Isle, were lovely horses, who would need further and would benefit
from a run. He said that Karl Neisius had opted to stay with Santos,
who had a bad draw last time and would likely improve further from a
draw of 13 in this event. He said it was difficult to be confident,
however, as he knew little about the first timers, although he had
seen the Snaith-trained Wing Man at the Sales, and felt that he 'was a
lovely specimen.' He also said that Strawberry Ices' full-brother,
Solo Traveller, could be special, as it was a great family.
In the fifth race he sends out Irresistable Chris, who was purchased
specifically as a broodmare by Lady Laidlaw. She is a half-sister to
Vodacom Durban July winner Eyeofthetiger and would be very valuable in
the paddocks. She was likely to go to stud shortly. He said that
Aqueduct in the sixth race was also similarly headed for stud by
August month, but that she was 'not without a chance.' In the ninth
race, he sends out the first-timer Miss Maddie and the Sheikh Mohammed
owned Minwa: " Miss Maddie is a lovely big scopy filly. She should
need a little further and will benefit from the outing. Minwa is one
of the Mike De Kock transfers on behalf of the Sheikh. She ran a great
race first time out and is beautifully bred. She could surprise."

I like Millie Most but would have preferred the standside course. Te Mooi in the last looks the part but the rest of the Big T card is a lottery. At Kenilworth I like Flaming Dame, Ce Loire and Mantosh. Dead Cert also looks the right one in the Feature.

Include Sesostris in the PA at Kenilworth, Emerald Cove must be the best bet for me at Kenilworth and include the stable companion Fresh Chestnut to upset the race just prior
At Turf like a bit of Island Song, must be a banker for me in the PA with Zaki coupling here, otherwise a tough day. Watch the 40/1 Special Interest in the 2nd...no good thing but a hunch to run a better race today.
Kenilworth:
PA: 2,6,3,4 x 5,1,3 x 4,1,5,7 x 7,5,2 x 1 x 4,7,1,10 x 13,7,1
P6: 5,1,3,2,10,8 x 4,1,5,8,14,7,9 x 7,5,3,1,11 x 1,6,3 x 4,7,1,10 x 13,7,1,2
JP: 4,1,8,5,14,7 x 5,7,3,1,11 x 1,3,4,2 x 4,7,1,10
Turffontein:
PA: 7 x 1,14,5,2 x 3,2,5,8,11,12,13 x 3,9,6,1,8,10 x 10,12,9,7,1,2,6 x 2,6,13,9,1,14 x 5,3,15,9,4
P6: 1,14,5,2 x 3,2,5,8,11,12,9 x 3,9,6,1,8,10,5,11,12 x 10,12,9,7,1,2 x 2,6,9,1,14,11 x 5,3,15,9,4,8,10
JP: 3,2,5,8,11,12,9 x 3,9,6,1,8,5,11,12 x 10,12,9,7,1,2 x 2,6,10,9,5,3

Man's Mood decided that retirement was boring and twisted Luckys arm to return for another brief campaign on the racing track. It must be said that this gelding is turning i think 9,but even Hugh Heffner gets it up and his in his eighties,so i think my partners and i will be excited to see how this fine machine gets on coming out of retirement.I have always said that its great to have a stayer, and just before going into retirement Man' Mood did his best over the longer distances, recording 6 wins for the partners, especially as he was on a final warning as he did not perform on shorter distances. If this soldier can show us any glimpses of his previous form it will be a brilliant achievement, and all i can say to all concerned 'lets see the Mood rumble'.Guys its not only about the win in this game, its about the horse as well,so thanks to Lucky and yard, and obvioussly its a distance much to short, but he has to start somewhere.
