Harris - that's just nasty. As I explained the majority of the bets I had with Victor Chandler drifted. So how did I grab them ? You sound quite defensive - are you a shareholder in Victor Chandler or something ?

Ruffy, I am not Victor and I do not work for him, but people who rape bookmakers should only complain when they do not get settled, not when they have their accounts closed.
Now seeing as you are so succesful, why do you never share any tips with us battlers ?

Wow Harris, you sound very sympathetic to bookmakers. Should I write a letter to Victor Chandler and apologize for backing a few winners with him ? (even though he had every opportunity to take back)
Should we start a charity for bookmakers chaps ? We can donate a portion of our winning bets back to them so they can manage to pay for their Mercedes.

I ignored this thread cos I thought the original numbers had to be an error, but Harris's post pricked up my ears.Does "raping" a bookmaker mean having a few winning bets or is there more to this than is being told?

Andrewest you remind me of John Wayne the classic cowboy, who has passed away, could never put a foot wrong, the only difference was that he never had a bounty on his head,he blew them away.

Rob - the numbers are correct. I do like to take the best price (don't we all ?) - but funnily enough with Victor Chandler I slipped up price wise on most of them. They just happened to win. Total over a few months was only about 60K - I'm not a big punter. They dinkum cut my limit to 100 rand of a horse without any contact. I called them and confirmed my new limit. After l stopped laughing I crapped them out.
As far as having sympathy for bookmakers ????? Cmon... please...get real

Surely bookmakers should not be able to choose to deal with only those that prove to be losers.
Their limits should be across the board and any limitation,to any individual, authorised only by the licencing authority, who would consider the merits( and winning fair and square, not being one of them).
The inevitability of betting exchanges will put a stop to this nonsense anyway.Pity that Saftote haven't applied for a "fixed price" tote(aka an exchange),and do a deal with Betfair to benefit from the existing technology. They already have contracts with them anyway.
(BTW why was the word "pr!cked" censored in my previous post, lucky I didn't say Fuck)

Very interesting thread. I don't know much about how bookies operate, but I thought it was the greater the volume of money waged the more they could spread your book, irrelevant if punter backed a winner or not, the bookie should win. The only time this wouldn't hold up was if someone placed a large bet at the off and the bookie couldn't lay it off in time. When you look at the percentages the bookies take I have no sympathy with them if they end up on the wrong side of a bet.
