I just wish someone could have put their name to the letter other than " THE RACING ASSOCIATION " so we know who we dealing with & we know who has made the time & effort to respond.

Oh well I agree it's small steps at a time & I suppose the steps are going in the RIGHT DIRECTION...... at least there's dialogue !

Pirates...

You underestimate me mate...As stated before i've got racing on my mind and i'll stand for my rights and for other small owners [even the bigger owners], ...sure lots of the hardened ABC members have more knowledge about other and these issues i'm not clued up with and that's why i know i've got backup right here...already asked Dave to join me and will let me know in time...

All i'm interested in is to focus on racing issues and nothing else...and as stated in another thread, SFRW and Racingweb also have brilliant points and if i could at least mediate that the big 3, [as MR.Hawaii calls it], could find common ground to raise valid RACING issues through discussions AND these issues can get passed on to an operational person at the RA for the RA to fight for our rights with operators, then so be it...i'm not an expert in issues like this but at least i can see the difference in what's good and what's bad in the current racing structure...i won't stand having a gun to my head, neither being brainwashed by empty promises or sweet talk in negotiations...

Give me at least the benefit of the doubt...

RA SAYS "second track at Fairview, most likely a polytrack due to the moderate climate, and due to the lack of water available in the area"

Mr Ra
if you do decide to lay a polytrack surface at fairview , make sure you pick the material correctly . I am no track manager but wherever there is a synthetic surface i have observed water being used on these surfaces probably more so than on grass tracks , this especially out of the rainy seasons .

Just speak to Zakheel at the vaal to get an idea of howmuch water he uses at the vaal and how relieved he is that the rains have come . Also if you had listened to the track manager of meydan talking about the tapeta you would understand the necesity water has in the preparation of that track .
in England if i recall correctly one or two of the three polytracks have what look like a dam within them .

So if you think you not gonna consume water on the new polytrack think twice . Unless offcourse you have sourced a material which doesn't require water to maintain. My knowledge is very limited or more like near nil on the subject but common sense says investigate correctly when making the decision.

Communication is the way forward regardless of who sent the letter - Take up the challenge RAD and others - You can solve the problems if both sides are willing - I believe this to be a breakthrough of sorts that the RA is engaging directly with the electronic Media, rather than ignoring this sector. Let me add that though this might prove to be a watershed moment, the larger group that is always ignored - THE PUNTER - has no voice and a means of giving him one needs urgent attention before he leaves the industry for good and we have to depend on the fickle foreign market to fund our local racing

I think we all realise the importance of the punter; however although RA members are affected by the action/inaction of punters, the RA surely can not be expected to look after punter's interests; there should be a separate body looking after punter's needs and wants imo - the question is who should be responsible for the creation and ongoing administration of such a body

I agree Frodo this should be the domain of Phumelela - I will never forget reporting a problem to Microsoft and after it was solved I received a call from a girl based in Ireland to find out if i was satisfied with the service I received. Telkom is another example - they may be accussed of bad service but everytime I have a problem with my lines etc and they fix it a few days later someone calls to find out if the service was to my satisfaction - I have brought this up with Phumelela staff in the past but they seem hesitant to try to faclitate this rather relying on the helpline which has never worked for me(perhaps others have had more sucsess)

The RA are obviously prepared to interact about race programming in response to RAD's E-mail,and it's great that he has been invited to a meeting to discuss his point of view.
I think that it would be a mistake to take a "team" to try use the opportunity to lay bare all the percieved ills of racing.

My guess is that this is an experiment by the RA so don't give them an excuse to regret it.

It is their meeting so let them decide who attends, have a sensible discussion sticking to the agenda, and it should lead to more and more communication.

Just my opinion!
