@flash harry:
Bump! and a thud! Umlilo lands back on earth!
Horses.....ANYTIME! They don't know whether they black, brown or white.
Worse, they don't know the kleur of their backers.... the mugs like me!

@royalIQ:
no offence; I enjoyed the little banter but a canter will be more welcome!

"The Americans fight for a free world, the English mostly for honour and glory and medals, the French and Canadians decide too late that they have to participate. The Italians are too scared to fight; the Russians have no choice. The Germans for the Fatherland. The Boers? Those sons of bitches fight for the hell of it."
The Scots have only six gears on there tanks - six reverse gears!
"Take a community of Dutchmen of the type of those who defended themselves for fifty years against all the power of Spain at a time when Spain was the greatest power in the world. Intermix with them a strain of those inflexible French Huguenots, who gave up their name and left their country forever at the time of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. The product must obviously be one of the most rugged, virile, unconquerable races ever seen upon the face of the earth. Take these formidable people and train them for seven generations in constant warfare against savage men and ferocious beasts, in circumstances in which no weakling could survive; place them so that they acquire skill with weapons and in horsemanship, give them a country which is eminently suited to the tactics of the huntsman, the marksman and the rider. Then, finally, put a fine temper upon their military qualities by a dour fatalistic Old Testament religion and an ardent and consuming patriotism. Combine all these qualities and all these impulses in one individual and you have the modern Boer."

@oscar:
'What a ridiculous argument!'
Sanity prevailed!
Admiring a string of pearls does not enhance the quality of the twine that passes through them.
Conversely, the string (maybe from hemp...dagga?) is not beneficated with the pearls losing their intrinsic value.
Raising questions on racism (from both sides) does not per se signify a racist! But, labelling someone of always raising the 'race card' is tantamount to racism!
Many pearls can be dangled on just one string!
That's an even worse argument!!!!

Umlilo..I really dislike the word "racism"..it sends a horrible shiver down my spine..I personally think that people of all colour in SA are probably the least racist on the planet..the thread as regards selling of Arlington I dont quite understand to be frank..if it is not making money then it must go..Im also very sad that Germiston and Newmarket are no more..especially Germiston cause I really liked going there however that being said, although I have zero information on the costings etc if they were costing and not earning then I understand that they had to go.

@oscar:
No offence at all!
I really got somewhat irked by Freeman's & reacted .... which was wrong!
I hate that word 'racism' as much because it is so prostituted and used to justify not just insults but also crime against all of us.
In countries like Australia and England, USA, etc there are upto 20 times as many racetracks than here in SAfrica......
1.
What are they doing right to keep them going?
2.
What are we doing wrong to shut them down?
Isn't this virtual swear word 'corporatisation' the common canker?
Is not horseracing about enjoyment / excitement rather than the tracks making money .... for shareholders only?
I hope I am appointed (very wishful thinking!) to the COE; these are some of the type of questions I would like the proponents of the industry (as it pertains) to answer!

Umlilo! Look what you started?
The English, Italians, Scots, Germans, Russians, Dutch.... and Boers, are into this fray! And check if the fire-extinguishers are still working!
AND (poor louisG!) they talking HISTORY & POLITIKS!
Stand there in the corner and apologise....start off with 5 000 bend-downs (touch your knees... no bending of the legs!)!
You stay put until the last race is run.... ehr....battle is won!
STOP PRESS!
The COE, with its terms of reference, a judge (obviously and 2 assistants), will be finalised before Parliament closes.
The hearings will be around February 2012.
How the heck does Umlilo get all this info?
Where are our 'liberal, concerned, independent' newspapers and their proactive reporters who punt the r2k so voluminously?
