Umlilo, you will not answer my question as if you do your arguments fall to pieces.

There are no more than 2 BLACK owners in South Africa and at the last count there are at least 5 BLACK directors of GC and Phumelela. Now that is representation for you!!!!!! Each black owner has 2 1/2 directors to support them.

The question now is, why are there not more BLACK owners. Simple, they are not interested. It goes without saying that if ownership was offered for free there will be many takers.

You Umlilo, are the unofficial charmain of the "NOT INTERESTED" Black owners society in your attempt to drive a car with a NUR (NOW U RICH) reigistration.

very seldom that I've read something so ridiculous and near-sighted as '...simple, they are not interested.' Sharkie, where have you been the last 10 years mate? wake up!

@soodum:

'How is it that a groom in australia clears the equivalent of around R15000 pm? Are the operators paying towards this or is it the trainers ?'

You will have owners and trainers up your back next.... we pay the bills.....!!!!!

In your comment, we must also consider that grooms overseas have become owners, trainers, officials, breeders, etc.

Here, why could the authorities not train grooms to become stipes, starters, etc? Only better grooms and some more equal than others?

BTW:

Circa 2006, an amount of R4-million was reportedly given by SETA to Gold Circle. (In the absence of any responses or statements, we can assume to be true until rebuffed!).

R2-million went to KZN (purportedly to set up Bhekinkosi Bulana) and the other R2-m to W Cape where the Groom's School was set up.

The Principal/President was an affable, elderly Mr Steele who was summarily replaced because he apparently wanted grooms to be on the Groom's School Committee for their input/involvement.

I understand that, to date, there is no repsenetative from the grooms. In fact, the committee does not even exist except for the President!

Maybe the operators should invest in horses ,get the proper training for grooms to become assistant trainers(obviously not every groom can do this) and when the groom is ready give him some horses to train,as Micky Goss keeps on telling us ,he has never seen a better horseman than a black south african

the groom school was a very good initiative but it now needs an additional step- a mentorship programme to build further on the future and to ensure further progress is made in building a better future. It can be done!

Grooms should not be earning the pittance they are on,always wondered how training fees in SA are so low compaired with the UK france states etc,yet the midweek stakes in SA and the original cost to purchase horses in SA are way better for the owner...

A protracted strike by the grooms will bring the under paying trainers to their knees, let the trainer sleep in horse shit during xmas and see how it feels

A groom in the uk averages £250 per week!(Roughly 3k)

America $300( bout 2400)per week

Both amounts include accomodation and excludes incentives/bonuses etc

Are sa training fees too low or are trainers taking too much of the pie ?

If a minimum wage is allocated to grooms(a living wage) will trainers fold,maybe,but there are too many driftwood trainers in sa just making up the numbers .....imo

soodum..... you think its practical/fair to use other currencies to highlight what they earn?..... 250 pounds & 300 dollars a week doesnt get a person toooo far....... take away the exchange rate & what you get..... 250 & 300 rands a week......is that a living wage????

@soodum:

Dick Francis, in one of his 'unpublished' novels:

The last time grooms went on strike at a training centre in South Africa, their wives/partners were locked in a room and only allowed out once they convinced their husbands to go back to work!

In another insrtance, the leaders were locked up naked in a cold room!

When officials were questioned, they blamed security guards acting without instructions; in fact, they asserted that this was an internal matter as there was friction between them and the grooms as some security guards were 'servicing' their partners whilst the grooms were attending to the fillies in the stables during the day!

Lol!
