Correcting your biggest punting mistakes...

I was just wondering what other clansmen's might be. Perhaps we can learn something from this thread. I'd say my biggest mistake for a long time was playing my selections regardless of going. I got burnt many times on soft going with horses that run best on good going. List some of your tough lessons learnt here...

good morning my fellow clansmen

i would have to say, putting money on a horse based maket support and not so much my own set of rules :(

backing first-timers without the pre-race comments from the trainer :(

Looking at two horses for sale as unraced 2yr olds and buying one that was very moderate, the other one was Kinsgate Native.

Agree scotia, sitting @ the bookies and the dops start flowing thick and fast has cost me too many nights on the couch lol ,so now i just have the occassional punt from home

Another thing a top trainer once told me on course after i was hassling him for some info(liquid courage aka whisky) is that never ever bet when its wet

One of the best pieces of advice i ever got about punting was...

When you have done all your studying and worked out all your bets, you now need LUCK behind you for everything to fall into place.
He also said when you hand over your Rand to a bookie, the money now belongs to the bookie and not you..

My biggest mistake is leaving out one or two runners in the P6 in a race I believe to be wide open - still trying to correct that one :(

punting on a race because I had friends/family with me ... felt I had to ... not because I liked anything in the race.
