Chesalon typical Bass july winner...4 year old running off a competitive mark...maybe even getting weight from younger horses

Talking about Chesalon, the owners fancied to kill the last time. Heard that it ran into all sort of problems.

Mike considers himself a Natal trainer with his smaller yard in Jhb. Been like that for awhile now. Has moved down here to live. Charles Laird done the same.

Notwithstanding the truth about the "leaky boat" provincialism may just be what the sport of horseracing needs. It needs to reach out to a wider audience.
Talking about a wider audience, there is a horse called Funsunzi and a huge marketing trick was missed again imo. The word Funsunzi is an East Coast Radio campaign which promotes Durban as the palce to be for Fun, Sun and See (Funsunzi). Non Stop all over the radio. If it was me, I would have been in contact with the radio station the day the horse Funsunzi ran and won. No better way to get buy in from the media and tie in some free promotion for the radio station and more importantly, horseracing!

This was the official mail from GC
Please be advised that Chesalon is a doubtful starter for the J&B Met, due to a suspected left fore check ligament injury. Trainer, Mike Bass, will confirm the horse’s race fitness as soon as possible.

I still don't see why racing has to be marketed along provincial lines. Igugu should be a househiold name, why does it matter where her trainer makes his home? I agree about the Fun Sunzi thing, though. Even more than that, racing missed the biggest trick of all time when it failed to take the Andrew Fortune story and make it known beyond the boundaries of racing.
A man who came from the brink of self destruction to become a national champion would have been an uplifting and heart warming story for the countless other unfortunates who find themselves where he was. Love him or hate him, he should have been splashed all over the mainstream media. But instead, we got f#ckall.
So if a human champion can't make it into the wider public conscience what chance has Fun Sunzi, a "mere" horse that has won two minor races out of season? Sadly, none whatsoever.
