I think the point is being missed.....most of the trainers who want to go have complained of the uphill battle to try to get boxes....they seem to have not been encouraged to come and race there in the season.

Hotline it is far easier for the CT to get boxes here than us to get down there. Will check how many boxes are being kept at Clairwood for Ct guys and let you know.

Every year CT trainers come to Durban..... natal trainers haven't come to CT for years.....DD came this year and look at the results. As u well know he used to come here and clean up with his babies but I think it's more of the natal trainers not having had the "firepower " than WC not prepared to give them boxes...as u said before an attraction like VDR is good for all concerned.....
Tks for the offer but I think those trainers who couldn't get boxes have made other arrangements as first week march is too late to decide to go to dbn for the season....

horseracing takes provincialism to another level, the industry is on it knees and at a time when it should be standing together its doing the opposite as this episode above clearly shows us,,,it clearly shows a distinct lack of leadership and vision ....

is the boxes available for cape trainers worse this year than other years? i ask because this is the first year of Phumelela in the Cape and GC Natal and cape hate each other so maybe the politic is the problem

Speaking of boxes, there is a lovely English style yard at Kenilworth just beyond the parade ring and saddling boxes. I only really noticed it for the first time last week because they housed some of the sales yearlings there. I think Dennis Drier has used that yard at times, but I don't know if that is where Drier's string went this year and it would be a pity if it sat idle while visitors were battling to find stabling.

Magic I had horses in that yard for Alistair years ago. Dennis went there every year but they have stopped that and only used on racedays now I gather. It was great to train from there. I dont think they even have normal training tracks anymore unless something for the quarintine station. Cape guys would know more.

Yes, I seem to remember someone saying they are now used as holding boxes on race days. Pity, it's a grand yard and those trees are just magnificent. Horse heaven, you'd think.

in recent times a few trainers have been granted permanent boxes at clairwood which simply means there are less available for the visitors...taking this into account im sure that temporary stabling could be put up for the 4 months during the season...but then again we talking about the same crowd that has embarrasment after embarrasment so it would be asking a bit much of them

I have just checked up and over and above the 40 boxes at Clwd for the 2 CT yards there already another 40+ will be available for another 3 trainers who have applied and then another 40+ are being made available to 2-3 trainers who also applied here at Summerveld. That is over 120 boxes for CT trainers. I dont think anyone from CT can complain.

120 boxes sounds pretty reasonable, I agree.
