fully agree with Scotia. For Tom to have any meaningful impact on the TBA's turnover and sustainability the whole of the industry needs a heave-ho overhaul or at the very least some fundamental adjustments. There has been zero marketing, branding or strategy over the last 40 years, and this not due to lobbying from some serious minds in the industry. The new generation of market does not know what racing is. They think it is the same as 'casino', and struggle to understand the 'sport' in racing. They don't have any references to the sport - ask anyone on the street to name a famous horse? But i'm sure they know a famous rugby player or boxer!!
If the powers that be - Phum, GC, TBA, RacingSAF, NHA, RA can group together and each put a share of the money forward for a collective R&D programme this problem can be overcome. Forget about citing 'racing is in dire straits in other countries' as an excuse - SAF has the means to fix their racing, its just a matter of agreeing to channel resources and reserves into the right programme to do it.
