FC no one can make a horse run faster than he can but maybe Anton keeps them running at their fastest for longer due to his balance and strength.

Plus his placing of horses and his timing of his challenge is superb and also often makes the difference between losing and winning. It's not just about how fast a horse can run, but how to maximise what ability the horse has.

I remember seeing Anton win on a Laird horse at Scottsville a month or 2 back (Think it was the last race of the meeting, a madien race)... Can't remember the horses name but he was working on this horse before they even turned into the straight, still had about 6 lengths to make up with 200 metres to go... Because of his persistence with this horse it got up to win on the line... IMO the jockey won that race and not the horses ability....
Anyone remember this?

Not specifically, but I've seen him snatch improbable victory from the jaws of defeat many times. One special ride to win a maiden that I always remember is his ride on the Australian record priced yearling Deja Devu or whatever the heck his name was, who won exactly one race at the Vaal in his non-stellar career and who needed Superman Times Two to get the job done.

Yes no doubt Marcus is all those things but he cannot be that much better than the other top boys..i think its got more to do with the horses he rides...a few weeks ago at Greyville i witnessed him being out ridden a few times even by an appy.

Good luck to the appy, but "beaten" and "outridden" do NOT mean the same thing, even if the end result is the same.

He got beaten by about half a length in the 1 race I remember.Appie's horse must have had a couple of lengths in hand!

You are probably spot on because one of the horses that I'm pretty sure we're talking about won again next time out, when 1.5 kgs under sufferance (if appy allowances are not factored in.)

the ride on Yellow card(odds on favourite)was the best u will see....a beaten horse and the punters collecting on it..thats where jockeyship comes in....i remeber a trainer commenting at the time...the difference between marcus and the other jockeys at the moment is his upper body strength...but there have been a few ..where we had no right of being in the winning queue..sure fc...other jockeys do this too from time to time(getting horse up under being under very hard rides)...but its the amount of times that marcus does it ,that sets him apart....some say its luck to win short head...but i say with marcus its timing......
was told in the old days...that muis roberts won more tight finishes than most..purely on the fact that he knew exactly where the winning line was and he asked for that final lunge right at the post

Jay Peg in Dubai with a slipped saddle and 1 foot out the irons was not too shabby

Anton Marcus is Top Class
I am much more confident when my money is on Marcus.
I think we are priveledged to watch him still race in SA.
At this point he is not even chasing for the championship and he he still in the hunt !
Good Luck Marcus ! Retain your title !
