when one analyses the quality of rides gavin had this season compared to marcus then for me he is without doubt the jockey of the year.....he getsvery little support from the top yards and his rides are like comparing driving a mini to a mercedes of marcus...when it comes to big race jockey and best rides of the year there is only one and thats striker his ride on gimmethegreenlite in the queens plate and pomodoro in the july were two of the greatest rides ever seen.....gods gift to jockeys

An interesting stat is that if one had put R1 on every mount of Marcus' for the season the return would have been negative R127.30. On Lerena it would have been negative R466.10. The winner of this category for jockeys who had over 300 rides was Grant van Niekerk with positive R79.00. Next was Donovan Dillon on positive R48.10 followed by Derryl Daniels on postive R34.60. Personally I think Marcus would have a slim chance of ever winning this race as virtually every horse he rides is shorter than it should be.

Black Eyed Peas, I had my money on Lerena and when it counted he never rode a winner on the last 2 days with serveral decent rides. All jockeys have their hard luck races, it like saying what if that putt drop on 16. To say Marcus isn't a deserved winner is a joke, yes he does get the best rides but that is because he is the best. Gavin is top class and like many have said will have his day and probably more than once.

This championship was Gavin's to lose and he did that by not riding a winner on the last 2 days. As Hibs also pointed out Marcus showed a better return for his rides over the season, considering his rides are usually shorter due to him riding is a tremendous achivement.

So who you going to pick this season ? If Gavin can have a similar season i think it is hard to see him being beaten .

I would say that this thread normally gets "hot" early April when the jocks start hitting 100 winners and the speculation and betting heats up.

Is there a site that updates the jockey standings for the season daily?
