Because i am a South African I tend to back the underdog, not just because of this but also because I believe that Gavin has worked his butt off on lesser mounts to contest the championship, i think he deserves to win. But who ever gets what they deserve in life???

What i do not get is that when the championship was close between Anton & Anthony last year many trainers seem to help both jocks. I must say the the way the trainers are helping Gavin is just short of trying to break his other leg at the moment.....

It is what it is and it can only be what it will be.....

Anyone done the stats on the average winning odds of both jocks mounts for the season?

As of the 23rd the stats were:-

Antons last 50 rides 1 has started in double digits,30 have started 3/1 or shorter and he has been beaten on 18 favorites Gavs last 50 rides 6 have started in double digits 10 have started 3/1 or shorter and he has been beaten on 8 favorites.. I am not detracting from the brilliance of Marcus there is no doubt that he is world class but this is hardly a level playing field and given the stats Gav has done superbly well to still be in front

can anyone explain my, why marcus is not riding more international races? instead of jumping to flamingo to chase a championship which would be more necessary for lerena, delpech and others, he should be in goodwood

Titch I understand what you are saying but in my experience, when I have put Anton on the horse is half the price when priced up than any other jockey. It does cloud the playing field statistics and cause some false favourites.

If this championship was based on Humility and Raw Talent, who would win??

A great jockey is measured not by how many winners he has on exceptional horses, but by how many winners he is able to have on ordinary ones.

Agree with Shrek, Lerena has not had the better card of rides in comparison. That said, he is still battling neck-on-neck for the 2011/2012 chamnpionship against Marcus. For a jockey to compete in a championship on comparatively mediocre horses, it says far more about Lerena's Talent than it does about Marcus'. Lerena is a world-class jockey here, Ren

Win, draw or lose, Lerena has demonstrated that he is a force to be reckoned with - a humble, well-mannered force at that.
