Some years ago a colour holder was brought to book by the then Jockey Club for manipulation and bringing the sport into disrepute by backing a horse he knew would be scratched and causing a false deduction. Exactly what has just happened.
Clearly the trainer could be leaking information to quite a few people or how would everyone know what's going to happen with such certainty that they can place these bets. One would think that information like this has some level of confidentiality between owner and trainer, and some responsibility too as it affects the betting and the public. We have to have some trust in these people and the system, and the NHRA is our protector....or what?
The whole thing is disreputable, and for once there is a clear trail to these people. The trainer is secure enough to go on the record above so one hopes it doesn't blow up in his face.

Louis,
are you telling me that the NHRA cannot act upon something unless there is a formal complaint lodged with them?

Obviously whomever claimed Jolly Along four times in a 10 minute period knew it was going to be scratched. To believe anything else is idiocy.
Therefore a full investigation is warranted.

Great question, perhaps Louis can answer it for us. We were led to believe that the NHRA had people looking into irregular betting patterns. If this is not an irregular betting pattern, then there never will be.
So Louis - Does a formal complaint have to be lodged before any notice is taken of irregular betting activities ?
That would explain such inaction in the past...

Clearly it is up to members of the public to now be the voice of racing and say something is wrong here. The police don't think there is a case to act upon.

The accusation would have been given a lot more credence if the complainant had contacted the NHRA directly with his contact details and voiced his grievances, as opposed to the vague message that was posted here which only served to defame Derek B and tarnish an already miserable racing image, this, on the strength of a statement that I believe to be utter fabrication for reasons that I have stated ad nauseum, I am reliably informed that there has indeed been an inquiry opened into the accusation and I for one will be following the development with much interest...I feel that it is as underhanded backing a horse when one knows that the 2nd favorite will not run as it is claiming a horse in the knowledge that it will be scratched,Harris's "Prominent owner and racing personality" who has at this stage remains nameless falls squarely into the former category as he back MnP before the scratching could be made public in the knowledge that even after the deduction he would have an edge (pricewise) which no matter how one looks at it is deceitful and should be dealt with accordingly.

Ruffian,
I would have to say that the racing police probably have very little understanding of the betting markets. There is simply no other reason that can justify how they fail to act time and time again. Those of us who live in the betting markets would imo have a far better understanding of these markets. We smell the rat as it enters the fray, whereas they don't even know that there is a rat in town.
I'm just flabbergasted by the fact that Mr Goosen seems to indicate that no action will be taken unless a formal complaint is laid by someone other than the NHRA.
It's like me getting shot outside my house and the police saying they cannot try and catch the perp unless a member of the public lays a charge with them.

So Titch, you would lay your life on the line that Derek B doesn't bet at the bookmaker who claimed Jolly Along ?

Re: Re: Kimberley race 9 - What a disgrace

ruff what I am saying is if Harris wanted to initiate an inquiry into what is a very serious matter then he would have taken it directly to the NHRA and produced facts to back it up and then post the findings here, if however he had absolutely no facts to back up his claims but wanted to tarnish Derek B's name then he would go the route he chose and start this thread, he initially referred to Derek as Mr B the racing manager but when there were still no takers he named him outright whilst the identity of the "Prominent owner and racing personality" he talks of remains anon.. my argument is that people should treat this site and those who post here with due respect and not treat it as a platform for personal vendettas and us as their puppets...this thread was started with one aim in mind and that was to have a go at Derek and the fact that his story has so many flaws only highlights the contempt he has for those who post here...and that sickens me

I don't know about your speculation that its a vendetta, let's hope that the truth comes out about that too.
But I'm glad that you are keeping an open mind and accepting the possibility that it could be Derek B behind the claims. I can understand doubting the probability, but you seemed to be dismissing the possibility.
I was worried that you had blinkers on.
I think the bottom line is we all agree that someone has brought racing into disrepute and whoever it may be should be exposed.
