Can they prove he was not using them as pain relief? and if so why not give hime a longer ban?
I know you can get a little buzz from Codeine, but whats the point of banning someone for 4 weeks ,either prove that he was abusing the drug or do fuck all

Codeine is in many Over The Counter medicines(mostly schedule 2 drugs), if I was him I would demand that all jockeys are tested. Not only for codeine but also for NSAID's (anti-inflammatory drugs) which are mostly schedule 3 drugs.
If the test was to determine the use of ilegal substances then it should be more specific. (Cocaine is also derived from opium, same family of drugs)
At the end of the day the system is a joke anyway. There is no proper testing system and no proper monitoring of jockeys overall. In Hong Kong, phones, computers and income is monitored and proper testing for listed substances is done.
I would like to know what products our jockeys take when sick or riding with an injury, probably smarties & st. johns wart..........

Re: Re: Jockey Noach - tested positive for codeine

i didnt know about Noach situation but the system is slightly flawed...
an exaggerated scenario:
take Cocaine and not declare it = 3 months
take Cocaine and declare it = 1 month
take cough syrup with Codeine and not declare it = 1 month
take cough syrup with Codeine and declare it = no suspension
it is best to declare EVERY single item we have used regardless of Schedule. the RULE is when tested declare anything that is medicinal.
the tests are there obviously as a deterrent but also for Safety reasons. eg. has Codeine been found in the system on 1 occasion (normal) or has it been over a period of a few months (problem) and there are also masking agents in some "smaller" drugs that hide the serious stuff. at the end of the day it is for our own protection.
when riding in Dubai in 2002, i was walking around at 57kgs and riding at 52kgs taking diuretics for almost every meeting. i was never tested once as ERA never did any tests. hardest season of my life and never touched the stuff again, now i eat what i want and gym and sauna to keep the weight off. i didnt want to end up with a kidney disease like my man Hadley Augustus!
a leading jock in Dubai had raced the thursday night and celebrated a double after, only to go to races on the friday still drunk, lost his job on the spot and never rode in Dubai again!!!
the jock that took his place in the stable has now won a championship.
when i came back from overseas, i was "randomly" tested 5 times in 3 months and then less frequently. once i made it known that i was running Comrades, all testing stopped except for a breathalyzer from time to time.
GUARANTEED i will be tested in the near future...

best thing i ever did was go for a full detox in 2004...
ate as much good food as i could, 8 veggies and fruits a day, meats and carbs and LOADS of vitamins with 1 hour of running and 4 hours of sauna everyday for 24 days straight
we dont realise what crap we actually allow our bodies to take in.

@ chippy mattheus - Who says comrades runners dont do substances.
PS: On 19 June 2012 The South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) confirmed that the 2012 Comrades Marathon winner, Ludwick Mamabolo tested positive for the banned stimulant. Ludwick Mambolo could face a two year ban and be stripped of his title if found guilty by an independent tribunal.
In 1992, Comrades winner Charl Mattheus was stripped of his title after testing positive for methylhexaneamine. In 2010, two Springbok rugby players, Chiliboy Ralepelle and Bjorn Basson, also tested positive for the substance.
In both of these incidents, sports scientist Prof. Tim Noakes, was outspoken about the legality of the substance.
According to Noakes, methylhexaneamine disappears from someone’s system within “24 to 36 hours”. Furthermore, Noakes also does not believe that athletes can gain any advantage from the use of methylhexaneamine.
In response to the Springbok drug controversy in 2010, Noakes said “This is not a doping incident. It’s an incident of inadvertent use through medication of a supplement. To call these guys dopers would be unfair. You can’t label someone a crook if he’s not one.”

Methylhexaneamine can be found in legal supplements & products and someone would have to have exceptional levels in the blood to help them win the comrades. Not saying that doping does not happen but the lay person does not have all the clinical evidence.
A young athlete that recently tested positive for Tik will not be going to the Olympics & is banned for two years, jockeys get 1-3 months for Cocaine. Not having a go at jockeys but often there are gripes about jockeys not being recognised at the main stream sports achievement awards. If the playing fields are level and the same rules applied to all sports people making money from "sport", if horse racing is a sport, then justified. If different rules apply to horse racing then what?
Jockeys should definately be paid much more per ride but then should also declare all "gifts" & "presents" as well as have a proper list of medicinal products which are allowed for usage & the wash out period.
All of us should make more use of the legal drug........WHISKEY!!!
