Sorry Titch my mate, I was a bit vague. Will be in dbn next week and thought id attend the breakfast and watch the gallops. The early winter morning of coffee and sticky buns, and the thundering hooves of thoroughbreds. The way EVERY day should start.

Has anyone ever picked the winner from the Gallops?

I think the boys pick their winners well before the gallops... Even if your horse puts up an "average" gallop, you'll still bleat about it being the best "mover" on the day..

Good morning clan, excuse my ignorance here. For the gallops, are the horses allocated weight? Reason i ask, sometimes a July entrant gallops with a stable companion, so if weights are allocated, it would be interesting to know what the two horses are carrying, i would imagine you would want the July horse to carry much more and beat the stable mate without too much effort.

No set weights, just depends on who rides the gallops and the size of the saddle.

I picked El Picha when it won in 2000, I just think it is just another workout - no fireworks to best judge . The trainers are compelled to bring their horses for the public to see. In a way it is good for the public to see their fancies before the big day.
