England as hard as they will fight will have no chance tomorrow. If I were England I would bat the first two sessions for minimal losses and then go for the victory in the final session. They would probably look at getting 150 or so in the final session. The problem with that is 67 overs into the day and about 10 into the final session the new ball becomes available and throught this test the new ball has been very difficult to play. The last 23 overs of the day will be against the new ball and anything over 3 runs an over would be good going. The best England could do is get a draw but I think even that would be unlikely.

We will see what transpires tomorrow.

the one man that could have won the match for England will be sipping on cappucinos and munching on bruschetta at his favourite jaunt, Brinkleys in Chelsea tomorrow.

one May night I got stuck in Beaufort West. It was one of the coldest nights I have ever experianced. The Karoo is beautiful in a stark way.
I remember once I was doing a trip and I stopped over in Calvinia for the night and booked into a little hotel. The owner asked if I wanted a steak and trimmings for supper. I went to my room and had a bath and then went to the dinning room for my supper. I will never ever forget the size of that plate of food. The steak hung over the side of the plate. It was so big that they gave me a seperate bowl of chips and vegtables. I thought that I would never finish it but as I was eating this delicous steak I imagined to myself that I may never get another steak as huge and as tasty as the one that i was devouring. So i finished it. There is nothing on this earth as good boere hospitality.

Moral of the story. Take Ourayperd up on his offer Englander as you will never forget it.

Muchas gracias OR. I have been twice though, the last times England toured here. And we had a lekker braai last night ;) I still prefer my grey old capital town though. It has a life and a history that I just love.
Hibs, you need to give up gambling, the cucumbers are already peeled ;)

London town has its charms ... I've just come back from there, after the delights of a month of English "summer". But London's still a grand place, at least to visit ... don't know that I'd care to live there.

Can anyone tell me why England invented a game that lasts five days? I mean, it's virtually guaranteed that you won't play out five whole days without rain. Or is that part of the spice ... watching the sky anxiously, scanning the forecasts every morning and evening, sitting playing cards in the changeroom while the rain drums down outside?

Still, despite the awful weather, GB is a different experience from RSA ... just compare the two main airports, Heathrow vs O R Tambo. The sour sulky faces and rudeness of Joburg airport would very offputting if I was a tourist.

Mav - guess they were bored! :) I never lived in London, commuted in for about a decade, used to love strolling the streets finding history around so many corners.

CnC - my first night in SA was in PE back in Nov 2004, up near the cricket ground and what was the Barmy Army pub. I went to a restaurant close by and asked what they recommended. Steak of course she said. I explained that I had just flown in from Argentina where I had eaten so much steak and that I doubted the SA steak would be better. It will be the best you have ever had she smiled with complete confidence. I was sceptical but she was pleasantly insistent that I discover that SA do the best steaks. A little reluctantly I agreed. When she came over to collect the plate, big smile on her face, she asked how it was. Very good said I. Better than in Argentina she asked knowingly? Er, to be honest, no, but it was very good I said. Her smile faded in an instant and I felt like I had offended her like no-one had ever offended her before!!

The moral of the story... there isn't one, its just a story! :) But if you ever find yourself in Bariloche, Argentina, pop down to a place called El Boliche de Alberto, I ate there 5 times in 7 days.

Anyway, back to the cricket... I have a feeling that its a day that not one but two people are going to get 100 plus...

I think with 2 wickets down already, it will be hard for England to overcome this situation. S.A will put the pressure on this morning, the first session this morning will give us a clear indication on how the balance of day will play. I think it's all over - S.A. will topple them at the top, Gary Kirsten great coach - he's proven it before. He will get us up there after tis afternoon.

the longer Trott bats then the better for us as he will take time to stand guard and do all his pathetic rituals. Also he bats for himself so he will be hoping for a not out to boost his average. Bell can score quickly and Prior will be dangerous as scores runs very quickly. England will no doubt go for it but I think that SA will win by around 50 or so runs.

The first 45 minutes to an hour will be slow going while England look to see off the new with minimal or no losses, then pick up the pace. Like I said before with the last 23 overs of the day being bowled with the second new ball it will be extreamily difficult for England to score at a quick pace for these over as they are bound to lose set batsmen and new batsmen will battle.
