Bowlers must be strong today and consistent from both ends of the wicket ...

Greg, agreed ... on the other hand, entertainment puts bums on seats and brings in the TV shekels! I guess I just have a very soft maternal spot for AB, silly old dame that I am.
Botha did captain the 20-20 team in Australia a few years ago and was very successful. He's also a sharp bowler and fielder ... why he never captained again is a puzzle to me ... maybe I missed something in the cricketing news. However he is on his way to Aus after this tournament. Makes me think that there was maybe some "personal" reason why he was left out so much, and he's decided to try for promotion in another firm.
I know perdictions are dangerous but it seems to me at this point (2:28 pm) that SA will be on the plane home soon. Watson is playing like a man possessed, and even if he goes out soon he has already done plenty damage to SA's hopes.

Oh, and just to be boring ... about this business of the Proteas choking: the accusation doesn't take into account their rather decent (ahem!) form in Test cricket. If any sport was geared specially and specifically to show up a tendency to break under pressure (i.e. choke) it would be Test cricket. Five days of stress and strain ... this should sort out the men from the crash-bang-walloping boys.
No other sport does this sort of sorting out, half so well as facing a well-matched team for five long days.

Sorry Mav,cannot agree that test cricket tests BMT................it seems to be the trophies and the "knockout stages" that cause our meltdown
Another year,another trophy,many captains,different players............same results.
Bottom line is we can't do what needs to be done WHEN it needs to be done................too many times to be coincidence.
Amazing how many times over the years that we have lost to sides in the knockout stages that we drilled in the group stages of tournaments.

We were beaten today by a better side imo - but how Parnell can be deemed a better choice than Albie Morkel in any format of the game is beyond me - and also have to question what Johan Botha did to get stripped of the captaincy - which in turn has lead to him defecting to Aus

Okay, si india won. Does that mean we still have a squeak. I am holidaying in Italy and have not read a newspaper or watched tv since I left SA. I just found out from this thread that we are 'nog steeds kak' in the short format of the game when it comes to the crunch.

Geniet die diep historiese geskiedenis en veral die kos!!!!!!!! F&k die krieket en as jy 'n kans het, kyk die re-play van Bokke teen Wannebees. Enjoy your stay.

Yeh, Magi, enjoy Italy you lucky tick! I'll think of you on a Monday morning, loafing at a cafe on the pavement, drinking strong coffee and watching the girls go by on their way to work, you ol' hedonist, you!
