@don:

'on what basis will the commission rule in favour?'

I doubt it will rule, rather refer for criminal investigation / legal implications certain aspects of the corporatisation deal, starting off with the MOU.

Unfortunately (fortunately?), Molekethi (neither Provincial Legislature) did not get legal clearance on corporatisation. Nor were checks and balances put in place, with or without Phumelela.

Whatever, this is going to snowball as the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee is to commence a COE into horseracing (apparently, awaiting outcome of the CC hearings).

Suppose Kema will be 'phindicated'?

and in the light of other proposals to GC (i.e. Purple Capital) being available, why would the Tribunal overrule the Commission's non-approval of the merger in favour of a complete monopoly in the betting sector? correct me if my thinking has holes in it

Correct! The only holes I see are in P's representation and arguments 'protecting' their monopoly on betting!

Also, in the light of the criticism levelled against the SAA 'monopoly' by one of the largest investors in P.....just why?

are the pecuniary interests invisible? and the fact that Phum is a listed company - bottom line is shareholder divs, their bottom line is betting turnover, not the well-being of racing (second or worse after soccer?)
I think Phum has already made up their mind that the Tribunal will overrule. The commission has correctly pointed out that Phum will leverage the market to their own benefit, they have to- they are a listed company, this is the nature of listed companies.
Will the Tribunal therefore enforce the Commission to bring forth a monopoly? not so sure.
what are the alternative scenarios?

GC W Cape has run operational losses since 2000 - for 12 years? HOw is 'Kenilworth Racing' (Trust controlled) going to '...reposition itself' in order to turn this around? If GC couldn't do it in 12 years, how is KW Racing going to do it - ? any ideas? what exactly caused GC WCape not able to turn itself around ?

@Don:

'what exactly caused GC WCape not able to turn itself around ?'

numerous factors, easiest of which is competition from casinos, drugs, gangsterism (discouraging punters), etc.

Add to this the absence of any initiative to promote the industry except as 'it's ours.... and it stays thataway..!'

The total absence of punters from any involvement, coupled with the arrogant advent of P which reinforced this attitude; monkey see, monkey due (due credits to FH! Lol!)

All criticism and submissions shot down if not from the 'right' quarters! Not taking horseracing to the mass, eg TellyTrack available to all and sundry.

I am certain that if a proposal was put to Government to chip in with a grant to bring in punters (all 51 shades of grey!), encourage grooms with ABET and promote them as jockeys (not the Grooms School again!), trainers, breeders, etc., there would have been a positive spin-off for everyone with some adjustment.

Right now, everything about the industry is negative; quite rightly so!

It is amazing that nobody has ventured such a proposal to the CC; instead, they all after a piece of the cake.... and perpetuate corporatisation!

Imagine corporatising soccer, cricket or rugby? Sell off the stadiums, starting off with Wanderers, FNB, Ellis Park, Kingsmead and those in the townships!

so, imagine the Tribunal doesn't overrule and the non-merger stands. What will we have?

@flash harry:

'people english is no my home language'

be so, but don't let that stop you from showing respect to others; not lecturing you!

You are a good man...lol!

Any feedback on yesterday's presentation/s?

Ian Jayes and Chopela Simoto were to have taken the podium.

Not unexpected; no report/reference in the Racing Express / Citizen whatsoever on a matter that is destined to change the face of horseracing in this country!

I said it before and am saying it again:

There will be a thorough investigation into the corporatisation process and the subsequent asset stripping, manipulation and enrichment with criminal charges to follow!

Also, Business Day......no coverage as these people are deemed 'non-entities' or 'mavericks'?

I presume that the CC will also look into the general media bias against any opinion that goes against the operators.... and that the operator's 'control' the Racing Express to the exclusion of other players! The victimisation / preclusion of Sporting Post, no interviews with 'trouble-makers' or opposing views on Telly Track (Government should withdraw its licence to telecast?(:P) ), etc.....????

Freedom of speech? Bah!
