@GERGBUCKS:

'Could this open an enquiry into the selling of Gauteng racecourses/assets?'

Correct!

I have mentioned previously; in terms of the old Transvaal Ordinance, no assets could be dissipated.

From what I recollect, there was no enabling legislation / sanctioning by the Gauteng Legislature over-ruling this. The MOU and undertakings were that a 'strategic partner' would be given X% of shares to operate the betting side, designated shares for punters, grooms, etc. There was no effort made to bring these sectors in as shareholders and they remain marginalised and despised to date. (The terms and conditions were clearly understodd such that only horseracing stake-holders would have complete control over the industry..... not the strategic partner or other.)
Add to this; the listing of P by Investec, with its directors taking virtual control of the entity, disposal of assets, no accountability, etc.

I am glad that even if I was not heard over the years, all the major elements of my observations / concerns (deemed 'radical' by my once esrtwhile liberal colleagues!) are now being raised, and even addressed by the CC, probably ending with referrals to the President to proceed with a full judicial enquiry into the industry.

The COE proposed by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee, DIi, is also waiting in the wings!

Interesting times indeed...!!!!

umlilo my friend can i ask one question and the question from the stupid harry is the simple one,

this hearing from what i under stand is the appeal from the cape and phumelela because the competition commission say the merger will create a monopoly in racing. is this the correct assumption? if i am correct, this hearing will get a simple answer either the original ruling is up held and no merger is allow, or the original ruling is over rule and the merger is allow. obvious the commission give reasons for the answer.

my simple question is where do you get this idea about commision of enquiry come from this appeal? surely any coe must come from the original hearing?

with lots of respect i ask this question i no fight with you >:D<

Me too... I no fight with you!

There is already a COE in progress from the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee.

The CC can (I understand) make referrals to other parties for further investigation (I am not pre-emptying or prescriptive!).

We will wait for the closure and conclusion; like some who are speculating, that is my gut feeling. In view of the disclosures made, there are numerous ramifications..... and now that the ball is rolling, I am certain Purple Capital, etc will not let go!

For my part, having been on the Board during the corporatisation, and witnessing the shenanigans at the time, and the consequent developments; that's not what was proposed!

The fact that I resigned over this issue is vindication of my stand; I refused to compromise my principles or sell my support to bidders! That is what many cannot comprehend or respect!

Trust that finds some solace with you.

If Mr Vidrick needs to be reminded of what telling the truth means,I can understand why he would be very uncomfortable with some of the speculation on Forums.
It is clear that historically in each instance of racings discontent, deals have calmed the dissenters(a number of "concerned owners" were rewarded which stopped the mutiny.)
It will be interesting to see what was on the table that caused some involved with WC racing to keep certain facts from the members......................
It will also be interesting ,when all enquiries are over,to look back at some of the allegations on the forums over the last 5-7 years, and see how many were right on the mark............certainly indications are looking like more than a couple.
The efforts to discredit forums may become clear in the not too distant future.

Thanks Rob the "stigma" of posting on the forum has long bothered me and be assure that when something needs promoted and defended I always have a full inbox/SMS/ calls etc.

We have done everything possible to keep it respectable and open for both sides to post views and comments.

Live 24/7 has been the way to go for many years, and hopefully the powers that be will eventually be aware of the direct coms between the operators and their clients is the way to go, a good example being Hollywood.

Why are you insulting someone you hardly know? What has she done to you?

Don't get involved in an intellectual debate if you have nothing good to contribute. A lot of lies have been spread about Phindi to distract horse racing people from the main issue.

You can call her whatever you like she is not going to stop what she has started because you call her a monkey. You will end up looking like one once she confronts you!

This is not a joke.

Rob you have hit the nail on the head imo, that is why the operator does not want to engage on the forums...:)

Morning Guys.i would like to say what difference does it make who brings out the allegations. If there is corruption and bribery,it needs to be exposed. We all complain abt dishonesty in government what abt racing. If there is corruption in racing,it needs to be exposed and those guilty must be brought to book.It does not make a difference if it is a black women ,white man.indian boy or colored granny lodging a complaint. Its called a democratic process. The tribunal will rule according to allegations not on color who who brings out the request.Looking at proceedings so far i think Mrs Kema had all her ducks in line cause she is not the one who is been told abt perjury and the consequences of lying in a legal proceeding. We can shout and scream all we want, slate and ridicule as long as we can the underlying fact is that Cape Racing is about to collapse and management that were in charge were not competent.Look at Kzn big casino's .national lottery and three race tracks(more racing in kzn than in Cape) yet tote pools in kzn up,casino revnue up.Cape Town casino revnue up by almost 47% and tote pools down.Guys like it or not the truth will be told and those that were dishonest will be exposed.cant wait and good on you mrs kena and purple capital for taking a stand.

@winzip:
'how the industry is going to spin this saga wen all the facts are made known and if anyone responsible for any wrong doing will ever be brought to book and held accountable.'

no need for spin if they are honest, committed and dedicated!

their first acceptance must be: horseracing is a sport!

as much as cricket, soccer, etc are separated as gambling events, so be it wiuth horseracing. The operator cannot be ref, player, linesman and executor in one breath!

If anyone does consider it objectively, then the operation borders on being unconstitutional as a closed shop (monopoly) totally unaccountable to anyone unless it were a private / family business!

A cartel of a handful of ultra-rich owners/breeders with massive investments (which are nothing short of tax exemptions / breaks / whatever...); If their involvement was genuine concern for the horse / industry, they would have propped up the effrots to bring in more owners via punters by supporting the setting up of syndicates in this people's sport, and not looked at upping share-holder profits. As such, they cannot be allowed to dictate whether directly or by deemed manipulation. If so, then they must join Phindi with her 'royal' race track solely for the elitists..... and don't bother anyone else for tote turnover!

We need slefless leaders who are prepared to think out of the box and put forward solid proposals / ideas for the upliftment and survival of the industry; adapt or die!

I believe the Cape has great wasted talent hopefully the right people will step forward and help reconstruct South African horse racing. The culprits have got to answer... this is just the beginning. Let's wait and see how it all pans out.
