and what about different distances ? We know that a lot of trainers sort of 'school them' over non optimal distances and then step them up to the correct distance.... by then they could be -3 and almost without hope.

Magi, I prefer starting slowly and then getting to the right distance if they are going to stay and it does not help that way of doing things. I think this is for 3 months and then looked at again and other elimination methods might be considered but not holding my breath.

Why does stoute have the skills to debut a horse over 2000m and the majority of sa trainers don't?

My tongue-in-cheek response to that question : Maybe because Michael Stoute spends less time playing golf and more time developing his string?

The other side of the new stakes regime : KZN has a long and proud record of rewarding soupmeat horses and very moderate trainers with above average remuneration.

It flies a little in the face of their other worn out bleat : We don't have the buying power to buy better horses.

Easy I will answer your question a bit later. Just on my way to try and work some horses, but I am sure it is still too wet. I wont lower myself to even trying to explain to an idiot who writes so much shit.I dont know where you live but obviously you have no idea about who trains here and which owners are now supporting our racing and the names of trainers who want to come in here and therefore will treat your statements with the contempt they deserve by not replying to them. Bob you should enforce a minimum IQ on your forum?:X

craig if he en force the minimum iq then i am in trouble >:D< but at least we in good company :)-D

serious question i ask be cause garrick have the valid point, why do you encentive the maidens and not the top division horse? i think he is right do you want to attract the top horse or the maiden winner? also i think if you have the good horse you win the maiden in kzn then you send it to joburg where the stakes are good? the satelite yard of de cock, tarry and laird must surely do this? so i say then kzn have the strongest maiden field and then weaker from their? i hope i make the point right?

F H, this is just the start of what the directors want to do with stakes over all levels. A lot depends on what happens with the Cape. They are trying to help the Natal owners and with the better horses now winning the maidens, it will feed into the better races as they qualify. The horses in the top divisions have won plenty money in getting there so it is nice for the owners who have probably kept these maiden horses for over a year already to get a nice stake to start. Gives everyone a chance and not only the really big owners who win most of the bigger races anyway. De Kock/Laird are Natal trainers now as they have relocated to here.

Hi Easy, sorry taken awhile but just finished scratchings etc. Besides saying that there are much lighter tracks in Newmarket and therefore you can do much longer work which you need if you going to come out 1st time out over a distance, you also have 20x more grass to gallop on. This prepares a horse much better if you have nearly unlimited soft grass to work on.You get a new strip every hr to work on. We at the monent have just come out of Winter where the grass in mostly too hard and into Spring where we are not allowed to gallop at the moment as it is too wet. Another reason is the merit rating system which kills you if you win 1st or 2nd time out and the earlier in the career the worse it is. They tend to over rate the early winners.

Craig

So even if a maiden is worth 1bar ( go phindi) most of the field will be going for a run

For that amount of money it would be worth taking the prize money and retire him with a merit rating of 85+!:D

I am not clear if you were referring to me as the idiot on page 1. Either way my response is the same
So our training tracks are not condusive to middle distance and staying types therefore our horses get trained in races. Yet our BIG races are over ground! Seems to me a confusing system especially for punters and form. Ewe obviously have the skills for the jay pegs and pocket powers and garangosas how can they return from a 9 month rest and run over 1800m

Sorry I waffle but on blackberry at hit s*les
