I would agree with the Alexanders that it does seem to be a case of 'selective finger-pointing'; however I think the principle remains whether the concerned parties are the Alexanders, the Snaiths or the de Kock's - if the industry is serious about presenting an 'honest' front to the racing public, then these 'common place' practices should be out there in the open for all to be aware of; the question of course is whose responsibility it is to make sure that these 'caretaker' actions are in fact in the open - imo at the moment the onus does not rest on the trainers to inform the public each and every time a horse goes out of province for a campaign (although it surely can't hurt their image - I would think that detailing such campaigns on a stable's website and /or newsletters would be reasonable)
Imo maybe the NHA should be adapting new rules regarding this practice - even if only to strenghthen the industry's 'transparency' image?

As much as I intended to ,I can't stay out of this debate.
For the 40 years that I have raced ,the success rate of horses "raiding"Cape Town from JHB (and vice versa) is very low..........including the glory days of Ferraris and Heming,so forget the dramatics,I want to know if a horse arrived Thursday or has been at either centre for weeks and fully acclimatized and I am entitled to know ...........................and that is RB's issue with the NHA.
Dean Alexander stumbles upon the point in his last paragraph ,but is so busy being defensive about the longest slump in racing history(relative to their glory days) that he misses the significance of his own point.
Punters should not get the info they need as a favour.................they should be getting all the help that is available from the regulators to ensure relevant facts are out there IMO.The fact that Blueridge Mountain has been in Cape Town for months is as relevant as whether it has blinkers or alumites!

For me firstly. Mr Bloomberg's comment on the number of Alex's winners has nothing to do with BRM being with Ramsden. Mr B. just had to say something because that is he.
Secondly, concerning Ramsden being the caretaker trainer, B is not having a go at Alex but at the NHRA rules or whatever for not publishing, advising the trainer status.
Much ado about nothing.

1000% correct. I ignored the horse totally as in my opinion the Alexander stable does not raid well !! Pure and simple.

That was a really good letter by the Alexanders, everything they say rings true and they cover all the bases except one.
And that is that this horse is being presented to the racing public as being trained by a visiting trainer, but it isn't really. A few people seem to think the filly has or is working with Variety Club, which must be untrue. If this horse tested positive (for arguments sake) then the fine would be made out to Alexander.. but should it?
Whatever the precedents may be, at some point a horse should be transferred to the trainer who is actually training the horse else why do we bother recording any of it? It does seem to be a very liberal interpreting of the rules. When the horse ran the other day, I did assume that Ramsden was merely standing in for the trainer who was temporarily away and that it must have been under the direct care and supervision of the registered trainer and his staff etc. but now that assumption feels wrong.

would somebody please post the ruling as per the nhra regarding the issue on this thread .being a punter the first horses i cross off are those of trainers who cannot have winners outside the province they train in and the alexanders are top of the log for whatever reason .they had a string at summerveld for the winter season yielding one winner you guessed it blue ridge mountain winning hard ridden in a maiden plate.it seems like the owners of this horse have plenty controversy posted on abc with maak a plan being in recent memory
