If you in this business to make money...good luck.
Month by month goes by where I feed them horses indirectly but hey I live the dream and occasionally the penny drops in my purse.

Simple calculation goes like this...more betting = less beer but loads more fun and no hangover
Less betting = more beer still loads of fun and still likely hangover

Like most of you above, I am in it to now and again finding the one.

Oh answer to the question, "never", tried but you guys are to tight!

If someone is winning plenty on the horses, why share it and reduce the odds, the only reason a person wants to sell tips is that he needs the money IMVHO

FPTP ( first past the post ) was possibly the first tipping service in SA and I used to put syndicates together before fractional betting.

This is a discussion i have had many times. I think there is a huge difference paying for tips and paying for information. I have only been punting horses about 18 months properly and so i need information to be relayed to me rather than someone giving me numbers that mean nothing.

For me there should be those sms type services for the days where you dont have time to put otgether your bets and want to play a PA/P6/JP, best bet or value bet. And if you are confident in a tipster then sometimes it is nice to play the same bets as he/she is playing.

For me though, getting an in depth report per race on certain horses where someone has realised that a horses is carrying the wrong weight, or that a Jockey / Trainer combo is in form, or my personal favourite the collateral form, this is more valuable to me and i would be prepared to pay for that information from a tipster i find reliable.
I didn't choose the #puntlife, the #puntlife chose me!

Scotia - not only reduce the odds, but be settled with all the admin work associated with having "signed" people up.
If they practice what their statistics show, they dont need the R 12 per meeting.

I disagree, once upon a time i challenged Mathew Lips because he tipped and never bet. I thought that was unacceptable. Then i started doing some television work as a pundit and found that i really needed to study the card so that any question asked live could be answered. This really helped and studying became more focussed (solotrama can verify) , then i made the MAGICAL discovery (pardon the pun) when i had a GREAT day tipping and punting, the next day followed nicely. when i had a poor day tipping and punting then it took me lots of days to get back "into " form.

This is because my studying of form became clouded with my desire to claw back my losses, my objectivity went out the window and my selections/tips reflected that.

Now its simple, i trained my girlfriend how to punt verbatum what i "tip" BUT i told her to ONLY start sometime in the future so that i would not subconsciously know if we/her was up or down. I taught her to be SAFE, so when i nap 1 then ONLY back it in the win market all other back them a place.

BTW i dont charge unless i am on TV then i get paid of course BUT i have had many many donations through people winning. The horses of course DONT all win BUT studying form without chasing money is a pleasure.

I can see the merits of tipsters, INVHO if a tipster punts then he cannot be worth it.

How many of you would pay for an email from Mathew lips everyday? I would.........

Easy i would pay to be mentored by guys like Lips,2cents,Pirates,Faux etc etc

I would never ask them to tip me a winner(although i have in jest) ! I talk to lips now and then but only about pasta and haircuts :)

Hibs i get it. My point is that people say " why would you tip them and not back them yourself" I am saying that the best tipsters are not often the best punters and the best punters are not often the best form studiers.

The following is 1000% FACT.

2 people on a racecourse
Both start the day with R1000
Both back the same 5 winners
1 ends the day with R10k
the other ends the day OUT
